Allies regain Initiative

Impulse 1: Weather is clear worldwide.

UK, FR Nav, US, RU Comb, CH Land.

Russia moves the lead Cav to ZOC the RR to Port Arthur, and an Inf to cut the RR to Vlad.  With supply to Harbin cut, and a GS (both remaining Lnd3) to flip it, Harbin becomes a Russian holding.

Russian Sub sails to Pacific, but fails to find the Convoys to the US.

French sub finally makes it to New Caledonia.

Convoys covered.  The french fleet is divided between the 3 range units in Casablanca (2) [prepared for a dash to the Pacific], some fast cruisers in Brest (3), and the remainder (all BBs) in Nice.  The Trs is in Bordeaux, waiting for specialized units to take to safety when the ball falls....

Impulse 2:  All Land.

JA 10-1s the lead Cav that had cut supply to the Harbin pocket.

 GE DOW Belgium, +1 Chit

Brussels falls to a paradrop, and Liege sinks under a 10-1+ wave.

(paradrop without notional means no advance into the city)

Impulse 3: Weather=10

RU, FR, CH Land, CW, US Combined.

Allies take what land is left in Belgium, and do not get enough units (or guts) to take out the lone paratrooper. (French player forgets Brussels is the Capitol)

Russia oozes the line forward towards a defensible point.

Impulse 4:

 IT, JA Combined, GE Land.

10-1 on defenders of Vilna (Garrison and WP militia), LARGE speed bump.

GE try a 3-1 blitz on French in 1132, DR=1, 1/-, most of front line flips (air force flipped as well)

 GE paratrooper flees Brussels

Realizing the expected fall of Belgium, the Belgian Inf are replaced on the line with French, and the Belgian Air Force is flown to the UK.

 DR=1, EOT

US GEARS UP!  (reveals 29 points in both pools)

M/J 1940

The Mighty French Armor and Stalin's Blunders...

Axis Init (10+2, 2), Axis go first.

Impulse 1: Weather good all over the world.  Axis all Land.

 Align Hungary, +1 Chit.

Rum GS stack in 1830, ne.

Germans crack O-chit in Rundstet, paradrop on Metz (FR Ftr shot down intercepting).

3-1+1 Assault Metz (with FR bomber support aborted). 3+1, 2/1, 2GE Inf dead, Metz taken.

5-1 Assault 1132, Paris Mil dies, Inf to Circle.

5-1 Assault Minsk, */2S, Gar and Inf lost.

Japanese begin to withdraw from Manchuria, IT Rail/rebase to Rum front.

 GE Reorgs stukas.

Impulse 2

FR, RU, CH Land, CW, US Comb.

France/GB Tighten line, retreating out of Belgium (except for Hex 1131).

Russia rails from Asia, and Kills Petsamo at 3-1 (dr9, */2S, 9-4 GBA arrives).  Unfortunately, lack of sleep takes its toll, and Russia forgets some west front shuffling (and will PAY).

Impulse 3

 Weather Ideal, All take land

IT GS on 131 fails, GE Shuffles on FR Front, and Axis reach FU lines.

Impulse 4

RU, CH Land, CW Naval, US Comb, FR AIR????

FR reorgs air force, and actually has superiority in the air!

Russia rails more from Siberia, and regrets letting Vitebisk get caught (part of the RU moves forgotten in Impulse 2).  Forgets still more.....

Impulse 5 Weath=2, Storm/rain in Arctic/Europe.

 GE, IT Lnd, JA Comb

Axis ooze around lines, and JA begins to set up pacific defence.

Impulse 7

FR Naval, CW, US Comb, RU, CH Land.

FR Fleet, seeing the beginning of the end, begin to scatter, and take a Alpine to Africa (as it does not look useful as a casualty, and can be air transported...

Impulse 9 Weath 4+1, mostly good...

 All Land

GE machine-guns the attacks, with poor luck...

3-2 Blitz with French TAC support in 1232, 1/- (French Armor wins their first battle, loss is Inf)

3-1 Blitz vs 0929, 1/- (Maginot lines holds for now, loss is Garrison in Germany)

2-1 Blitz vs river line in 2242 (Russia), 1/1 (Berlin Mil, Russian Inf)

5-1 Assault on Vibetsk, (with Russian Tac support from Kiev) */2S.  (Cav, Gar) Destroy Factory.

(and we see again one of the Russian mistakes in forgotten moved units, which would have replaced the Cav with another Inf.

Impulse 10

CW Land (ran out of Ships) with RU, FR, CH, US Comb.

 Allies Counterattack!

CW vs line Mech in 1233, 3-1 Assault, 8+1, */2S, takes hex with Mech and Mil. (Lone stukas aborted at +6  FR vs 0930 (Leading edge of GE Penetration, flipped from attack on 0929), 2-1+2, HQ support takes, 3-1+2, DR10+2=12 */2S (2 Inf, the FR Armor rack up even more kills..)

Impulse 11: Weather same.  All Land.

JA GS vs 0534 with two planes, failure.

Pskov falls at 7-1+1 (second unit for Pskov forgotten to move in due to distraction with rule argument after Gar pulled out last turn.  The lack of sleep for Stalin takes its toll...)

GS 1233 Brits at 1233, both flip (all Brit Air flipped due to attempt to kill 6 point Stuka in Brit attack.)  Turns to a 2-1+2 Blitz, */1B.  Armor forces a wedge in the French line gap behind, London Mil Killed, Mech to Spiral)

Impulse 12

CW Assault Belgian border coastline (only one Inf left due to casualties and reshuffling).  CV GS do nothing, and a German Nav from Kiel flies support unopposed.  HQ support turns it into a 4-1, -/1, Inf dies (CW remain in France)

FR Assault lead German 7 point armor (only unit in France, other than Metz) 4-1, DR=10, Arm dies, line reformed (Another kill for the troubleshooting French Armor/Mech stack!  That's 3 Inf and a Armor for battles that include this stack, with no losses!)

Impulse 13

Weather ideal, JA, It Land, GE Comb.

 JA GS (again) and fails.

GE Deutchland attempt to pass through North sea, intercepted, sunk with air, despite having surprise.

GE slaughters flipped oos Russians in Swamp (Inf, Gar)

 EOT (finally!)

US takes move fleet to Pearl, give resources to Russia.

This turn saw HORRIBLE attrition to the Germans, with 1 Arm, 1 Mech, 1 Ftr2, 1 Gar, and 5 Inf for 1 CW Mil, and France's losses of 1 Ftr, 1 Mil, 1 Gar (30 BP to 10, the French are running out of units to build, having only a 4 point Mot and DeGaulle in their land pool).  Usually, the casualties of the French front determine the strength of Barbarossa, but this time the draw of units in Russia may keep France alive far longer than desired...

Builds

 CH (5) Ftr2

CW (15) Mar, 3Mil, CV (fd)

US (19) BB (fu), CP, Amphib (fd), Lnd3

J/A 1940

Allies get Initiative-

Impulse 1: Weath=5 (good except south Monsoon)

RU, CH, FR Land, CW Nav, US Comb

Failed Russian GS versus v Bock (would have halted offensive ops in the north-is the only HQ in Russia north of Prepeits)

RU moves in force adjacent to Helsinki from Petsamo, 25-11, waits the extra impuse to base a ftr north for the 3-1 (mabye a + for GS)

French reshuffle to a defensive position after their counteroffensives last turn..

CW Covers convoys and North sea  China shifts Nats forward, Comm forces cover an additional hex of line to allow this...

Impulse 2:

GE GS 1030, both Georges and Inf with him flip (ouch!)

 IT GS 1631 (fail)

Rum GS 1629 (flip one WP Militia)

Germany regrets not having used O-Chit for land, and attacks 1030.  Loses Lnd-3 in air battle, but the 2 Stukas clear, for a 2-1+1.  Result 1/R (GE Mil dies, Hex cleared, GE does not take hex due to having to either put 1 flipped unit in hex (learned not to do that last turn), or leave a hex with flipped aircraft empty (never a good idea.)).

GE runs over 3-3 inf (Russian) in 2145 (wasted speedbump.  Had not predicted him taking a Combined and not being able to move anyway).

Impulse 3: Weath=6 (same) Wierd phase choices!

FR-Air (reflips 2 ftr-2, Ftr-3 (for GS), and Lnd-3).  All HQs used now, but France has total control of the air, as the Germans have 1 HQ, 1 2 factor Ftr-2 face up.  FR does not have to worry about the empty hex being taken due to all adjacent units flipped, and all possible entry hexes covered (except for paradrop.  Yeah, leave it alone in a hex surrounded on 4 sides, I DARE YOU!!!)

 CW, CH Lnd

 RU (!), US Combined

CW Airstrike agains last German HQ fails.

CW starts to shuffle along empty Belgian coast (The German is LOW on units), but stops when he realizes he forgot to move out the Trs in Calais, which would leave him over FTC (HW in advancing force)

RU Sub moves to Indian ocean (!!!)

Impulse 4:

 GE, IT Land, JA Nav.

Largely a front shuffle, with the GE/IT/Rum forces in the south getting nervous after the last Russian reshuffle...

JA Cruiser (+1 CV) fleet scatters to hit Indian ocean convoys in Storms.

JA Searches abort convoy in Bay of Bengal, and finds w/9 points in Arabian sea, damaging Convoy and escorting cruiser.

JA overwhelms defending garrison (NE Mil) in NEI capitol (Mar, Inf, LOTS of Bombardment and entire CV force for GS)

Germans attack 2047 (just north of Novgorod), lose 1 Lnd-3 on GS (no Ftr escort, defending Mig-1), DR=10, no matter (2-1, */2B), and overruns Russian Lnd-2 face down behnd line (first impuse GS attempt).

GE attack Maginot line at 0929, 3-1+1, */1B, clears another border hex.(Don't remember where the +1 came from....)

GE moves 2 units to cover Antwerp (Don't want to lose THAT now....)

Impulse 7: Weath=3

FR, RU, CH Land, CW US Comb.

 RU Strat bombs Bucharest, -1PP

Russians withdraw Finnish Expedition to Petsamo (minus Cav, which cannot fit)

Impulse 8:

 JA Comb, IT, GE Lnd

IT Strat bomb attempt fails at Stalino.

5-1 Assault at Novgorod, */2S (Inf, MOT dies)

10-1 Assault agains withdrawing CAV in Finland, Auto clear.

Impulse 9: Weath=10, Rains begin!!!! (Russia sighs in relief.  Too bad it couldn't happen last impulse...)

RU, CH, FR Land, CW, US Combined

 Russians Counter-attack!

Russians GS 1731, lose 1 Ftr-2 (old I-15) to Defending IT Ftr (4 point).

GS fails anyway...

Russians Blitz 1731 (7 point German Inf, 2 point Rum Mil).  3-1, 2-1 with rain, 3-1 with HQ support. (Rum HQ support fails) DR=10, */2S, Multiple GBA

Promotions (11-5 Mech, 8-4 Inf).  Italian plyer (In charge of this front) starts to look nervous....

Impulse 10: All Land.

 GE Auto Assault Strausberg.

GE 3-1 Blitz versus French hex in Belgium (1131), 1/- (Ouch, not again...)

Impulse 11: Weath =10+1 (UGH!  And +2 for next turn!)

Minor reshuffling, None of the flipped hexes in Belgium look worth attacking...

Turn ends finally! Init to +2 Axis (Ouch)

RU/FR player general notes:

The German player has been on the opinion that, had the trun gone 2 more impulses, Germany would have been in a hopeless situation. The only unflipped forces were 1-2 corps on the southern russian front, the 2-3 surviving Rumanians, and the Italians (although the Italian air force is flipped, and standing alone.....).  He felt that the French would have either wiped out too many units, or had pocketed the Western front (given the fact that some of them are in German hexes, I'm not sure why he was so worried, but, then again, I'm the newbie..).  His airforce in General has suffered horrendous losses, and both of the Stukas were killed this turn (one run over with the ME-110 in Brussles and one killed trying to stop the killer French tanks..), so his options for offence are certainly limited, even if he still holds far more powerful stacks than the French.  The arrival of the Americans (only Ike so far, but expecting the 8-4 Mot and Wildcat to back it up next turn...) in France leaves me with great optimism about the future.  The Japanese are looking strong, with nearly their entire force pool built out all over, but they haven't been doing enough.  A landing in the Phillipines and the NEI are the only actions other than the port strike that have been taken so far in their two turn war.  Fortunately for them, the strike killed two US transports, so US options are limited, but for example the US had a (forgotten) opportunity to move a mountain corps to Rabul, which would had basically secured this end of the pacific.  The Chinese have built their force pool to the point where they have a Lnd-3 already, along with the two fighters, and (I think???) outnumber the Japanese air force in China right now...

[S/O 1940 notes:]

The Axis player has taken advantage of nearly every mistake that I or the CW has made, but has made some strategic mistakes as well as a few tactical ones of his own.  In strategic ones, the DoW agains Russia by all sides. Japan did not position to take out the Trans-Siberian RR, and so only got one Resource, while allowing the Russian to take the northern one and Harbin.  He also took Vlad right off the bat (although it saved him from another 2 turns of convoy bashing, as well as some 2-3 PP in strat bombing, as witht he bomber farther back, it could only hit 1 stack targets) chose the Mar as the loss (a Mot is the wrong unit to have on the Siberian coast, and should have been the loss), started his CVs late (none until '40), and poorly covered his comvoys (some of the fleet should have been mid-pacific to cover against the rogue sub, which broke the line once, and would have again if not for bad luck...).  One X result, or failed D result would have set production SERIOUSLY behind. (playing with 5/10 point classic convoys).  The war in China has been stagnant, with the only land attack being by NATIONALISTS against an underdefended Canton, and the routine ineffectual GS agains Chinese positions (said hex recently reinforced by 11 points of Commies).  With all 3 Japanese HQs in China, more than this should have been undertaken.

Axis Init.  Weath=6, Ger/IT Land, JA Comb.

Japanese Assault Partisan in Tisngtao at 7-1, Flip.  Fleet moves to Bismark sea with Troops, And lands adjacent to Manila.

Germans and Italians withdraw en masse from Russia. (Too bad, if Allies had gotten Init, either the Northern or Southern forces would have been cutout of supply, and probably lost).  Overrun Partisan near Minsk in withdrawl.

Minor Reshuffling in France in the rain.

USSR Assaults Chisnau at 5-1, Flips (AARGH! Rumania will live another turn [actually 2]) (Lost, Rum Inf&Mil)

Impulse 5: Weath=3+1, GE/IT Land, Japan Combined

Japan moves more to Bismark sea, more troops land in Phillipines, and a 5-1 Assault on Manila yields */2S (Macarthur dies).  Continued Failed JA GS versus China.

Allies win roll, Axis move first.

Impulse 1: Weath=4, GE, IT Land, Japan Naval.

Germany, Italy  attempt to shore up their positions in Poland, and build a good defensive line, railing out the last few disposable assets from Italy to make the southern portion of the line.  Hungarian units fill in the last two single-stacked Germans.

Japan moves to shuttle her units around, and down't do much.

Impulse 3: CH, USSR, UK Land, USA/FR Comb

The French and US move more American forces to France.  Much resuffling to protect the front better, with Enough Brits moving, along with in India and

Australia to necessitate the Land.  Russians move to cut the remaining fores in Rumania into small, out of supply pockets.  Weather keeps movement down to avoid the Russians actually DOING anything about it.

Impulse 5: All Land.  Weath=6+1

The Japanese fail their GS attempts AGAIN.  Otherise, Weather keeps anything real from happening.

Impulse 8: CH, FR, USSR Land, USA/CW Combined.

Russians run around the south end of the river line, trying to find a weak point.  Hits the newly formed Mil in the northern Rumanian city at 5-1, 1/1.

Germany reshuffles for the coming spring in the west, attempts to shore up the line in Poland.  JA GS fails again....

Impulse 1: (Weath=8+2, Germany, Italy Land, JA Naval)

France finally heats up again.  O-Chit cracked on Rundstet.  GS Maginot Hex, escorted, unopposed, Fails.  5-1 Blitz versus center Maginot Hex (no fort, taken earlier in the war), takes the hex (don't remember the method, I was fighting 5 hours jetlag at the time), and took 1030 (resource west of Metz) at the same time (after an extensive air battle that results in 2 French Ftrs, 1 French bomber, and 2 German Ftrs dead).  In Russia, another GS versus Zhukov kills a defending fighter, and again fails. Japan sees the Subs in Rabul, and puts a CV and a nav in each of the China seas.

Impulse 2: China,USSR Land, FR, USA, CW Combined.

US attempts to DOW Euroaxis, and fails due to a miscount (missed an extra 5 in the Japanese Tension pool which pushed it up a row). Russia stages a 4-1 Blitz versus the facedown Italian immortal fighter (only Axis FTR on East Front), HQ, Mech.  Kills the defending Italian bomber/Atr (weak, but still a plane), and then rolls dr=1, 1/- (ARRRGGHH! I'm sick of these 1s!).  US moves the Carrier force from Pearl to the China Sea, and ambushes the forces there.  Kills the CV and a CL, and damages the convoy (5), taking out a CV air component in the process (darn good AA), and aborting another in Air-to-air combat.  The remaining Convoy (5) flees with the defending Nav, fighter, and the last CL (unwilling to face even 3 CVs, with attending cruisers).

The Brits ambush a Japanese force in the Bay of Bengal, killing a Transport with a Mtn on board.

The US moves a Trs to the Italian coast with a FR Mtn on board.

FR takes an air, and reorgs their remaining airforce.

Impulse 3: (The French Armor survive again!) Weath=6, GE lnd, JA Nav, IT Comb.

Italy DOW USA, FR, moves their fleet out to catch the US Trs, and fails.

Their subs hit the WME convoys, killing a French convoy (5) (The Brits have another)

Germans stage a 2-1 Blitz (after another air war resulting in a French Lnd-3 and German Ftr-2 dead) on the strongest French stack (7-3 inf, 7-6 Armor), get a 1/R, and clear out 1231 (the end of the French line).  A 2-1 Blitz on the hex south of Metz has only moderate success (-/1).

The Japanese drive off the US CV force with no losses on either side.

Impulse 4: CH, USSR Land, FR, UK, US Combined.

French reorg slightly, and move more Americans to France.

US attempts to DOW, and fails with a 9.

UK DOW Norway, take most of the southern ports.  Russians walk into Narvik from Petsamo.

Impulse 5: Weath=2, GE,IT Combined, JA Land.

 Rains halt further attacks.

IT DOW CW, hit convoys in WME, damaging one with a sub. (no convoys remaining in WME.  8 Resources shipped from Russia and Middle east to Western allies through here).  The remaining Convoy aborts, with the Russian and French Navs.

Impulse 7: US, USSR, CH Land, France, UK Naval

French fleet, with the help of the Ark Royal, moves out to hit the Italian Subs/Nav in the WME.  The French succeed in driving off the Nav and Aborting the Ftr, and then kill the two Italian subs in the second round of combat (who committed in the hope of hiting the new convoys that went in).

US DOW (finally!), and move to guard the convoy routes even more securely (CV-4 in North Atlantic).

Impulse 9: Germany Combined, Italy/Japan land

Germany and Italy hits Zagreb at 2-1, gets a 2/1 result, and Zagreb holds.

Japan stages a 1-1 on Singapore, 1/- result ends ambitions there for a couple of turns.

Germany hits the resource next to Lille at 2-1 Blitz, gets a */1B result (AAARRRGH!  Lille is now ZOCed out of resources!)

Impulse 10: USSR, China Land, France Air (again), USA/UK Combined? (I think)

USSR GS a Hungarian/German stack in north Poland, flips one, and then gets a 1/1 in the 2-1+1 Blitz (not useful, only the Hungarian Cav died).

In Hungary, the USSR shows the flaw in the defences, as a cav runs around the end of the line, and occupies the capital.  A para flown in at the end of the impulse secures everything.  (with the Hungarians out of supply, and most of the Germans and Italians flipped from the attack on Zagreb).  They also run a strat bombing raid on Prague, and hit nothing.

French reorg key elements of the Air Force, and the French Armor (handy part of having 4 French HQs, along with 2 US and 2 CW in France....)

Impulse 11: Weather=2 Germany Land JA, IT Combined  IT move a TRS port-to-port with the Marine to Sardinia, who then walks to south Corsica, killing the flipped French NAV (oops!  I was hoping he would invade, and I would have a chance to at least bleed Italian units in the process, thus the reason for putting them in Corsica undefended)  Due to rain, the remaining units in Hungary are OOS, and a few units shuffle around on the Polish line to secure it when the Hungarians die, and to minimize the paritsan possibilities.

 Japanese Align Siam.

Impulse 13: CH, USSR, UK, FR Land, USA Combined.

USSR CAV finish putting Axis in Hungary out of supply, and squish a Hungarian Inf at 12-1 or so (getting a Banner Cav in the process).  French line gets reformed , and more troops get dropped off in Norway for the eventual attack on Oslo.  French again run two strat bombing raids, and get no results.

Turn ends, Hungary joins the ranks of conquered countries.  USA in total war.

J/A 1941

Allies 6+1, Axis 3, Allies Move first.

Impulse 1: China, USSR Land, France Combined, UK/USA Naval.

France mvoes her fleet to the 2 Box of the Italian Sea, where Italy has left her fleet at sea from the last turn (now in the 3 box).  The disadvantage in boxes is made up for by the presence of the Ark Royal, and Bearn, and the Russian Nav operationg from Corsica, and the Brits also fly out the 5 Factor Beaufighter in Tripoli (just flew fron the UK).  The Italians fly out their Ftr to cover the convoys in the reaction step.

The Americans Align Brazil (and kick themselves for not doing it sooner), and the Russians blitz the lone German Mot holding the south end of the south end of the Polish lines at 12-1 or so.

Impulse 2: GE Comb, IT Lnd, JA Nav.

The German 2 range (read useless) sub fleet sorties into the North sea, and catches a Brit Trs with the Mech on it (on the way to Norway), killing it for a damaged Sub and a Dead sub (promptly scrapped).  They also stage a 4-1 Assault on Bratislava (should have moved the para here), clearing the Hex.  The Italians call a 2-1 Assault on Zagreb trying to free a hole in the line to resupply Hungary, and fail (1/-).

Impulse 3: China, USSR, France Land, UK, USA Combined. Weath=10

The Italian sea finally finds, with the first round being an air, killing a IT CA and a CL.  The second round is a surface, with the Italians having a few suprise points.  The spare French BPs pay off here (the Paris has entered the battleline and the Italians haven't gotten their old BBs out yet), and the French get a CL dead and the Paris aborted for two damaged CAs and a few aborts.  The third round is again air, and the Italians finally abort the Russian Nav, but the Bearn and Ark Royal still damage and abort the Littorio.  Now, with a CA, a CL, and a WWI era BB remaining, the Italian fleet runs for home with the Convoys (were moving the resource from Turkey to Germany, along with Pola and Sardinia to Italy).  The USA makes a raid on the BOB, to catch the Japanese light CV force there, totally forgetting the storms.  In the resulting battle, there is some light US cruiser damage, and an old Japanese CL is killed.  The US aborts to zone to avoid further contact.  The eastern front heats up.  In Hungary, a Russian group surrounds and eliminates the Italian HQ giving supply at 6-1 (*/2B).  The Yugoslavs eliminate the flipped pair of German bp Inf (oos) at 4-1+2, getting a */2S.  In south Poland, a stack of Italian HQ and mech is blitzed at 4-1, yielding a */1B, and the Mech is sent to the circle (only GE HQ in the east, 1 IT HQ-A in the French Alps, and 3 GE HQ in France/Belgium [2 HQ-A!]).  The USSR, seeing the Italian Ftr flipped, run a strat bombing mission to Milan, and again fail.

Impulse 4: Euroaxis Land, Japan Combined.

Japan conducts her obligatory groundstrikes against the Chinese, and actually flip the stack they are hitting!  Under a "now or never" type philosophy, she stages a 3-2+2 on the northern desert river bend, and gets a 2/1, losing a Mot and an Inf for the Chicom Militia.  She immediately starts plotting to get another infantry up there and repeating the attack.  The Germans hit the French line at theresource next to Metz, flip the US res Mot (stacked with the Paris Mil), and succeed in sending them both to the circle (and therefore the Mot to the US) with a */B.

Impulse 5: China/USSR Land, France Air, USA Naval, CW Comb. Weath=4+1

France flips up a substantial part of her Airforce, but due to the German 7-factor fighter, realize that they are still severely outclassed. In Poland, the German/Italian lines have tightened, but the Russians see a single stacked Italian Mot behind a river in front of a Warsaw with two flipped Italian planes in it (the entire east front AF).  After rules consultations, it is realized that one can blitz INTO a city, even if one cannot stage a blitz attack on the city, and off they go!  Unfortunately, the characteristic Russian luck leaves them with a -/1R, good to take the hex but not to go anywhere from there, and the opportunity is lost.

Impulse 6: All Land.

The Japanese shuffle their land units alont the line to get a second unit in the north, and flip in the process, but their HQ in the north unflips both the infantries to use in the next attack.  The Polish front steps back a couple of hexes, and the Germans/Italians stage a desperate attack on the bridgehead 1 hex south of Warsaw, getting a 1/1 (3-2 or so, I've lost the info).  A Russian GBA Mech goes to the circle, with a GE inf?

Impulse 7: CH/USSR Land, UK/USA Naval, France Combined.

The Chicoms, not willing to look a gift horse in the mouth, run a 3-2+1 assault on the mountain hex north of Si-An.  A /-1 is enough to take this key hex, but they were not able to send a unit north to support the lone Cav in the river bend, to be attacked next inpulse. ?3-1 Assault somewhere? 1/- on the east front?

Impulse 8:

The Japanese have another go at the river bend, this time taking it at 2-1+1.  An 8 factor inf moves into the hex to solidify the gain.

3-1+2 Assault on the Northern Polish front, -/s moves a Mot and the Moscow Mil to the Circle.

Impulse 9:

? 4-1 assault -/1 somewhere on the east front?

The French again run two strat missions, both on the 4 table, and hit nothing.

Summary:

Germany conquers Poland and eventually forces France to a harsh surrender - with Italian help. A small group of French territories and military units fight on from West Africa and Madagascar. Belgium is also conquered before the Wehrmacht launches Barbarossa. Stubborn Russian forces - notably in the Ukraine hold this operation. However, an early break in the weather in 1942 leads to the destruction of much of the Red Army.
Turkey also takes the chance to throw in with the ascendant Axis forces in the region.
Following the defeat of Metropolitan France and its Mediterranean colonies, Italy attempts to seize Egypt. With the assistance of the IJN and the Luftwaffe Italy captures Suez - opening up the Middle East. Iraq and Persia align with Italy - leading to the capture and retention of Baku. A brilliant campaign planned and completed by Graziani allows Italian forces to capture Athens and bring Yugoslavia in as an ally.
Japanese aims at building an Asian Empire are initially blunted by a stubborn Chinese defence, although in the south Kwei Yang is captured for a short time. Seeking easier conquests, the IJN and IJA launch attacks on the largely undefended CW and Dutch possessions. The NEI, Malaya, HK and Rabaul are captured easily - Ceylon and Burma following later. With the Red Army pre-occupied the IJA launches a surprise attack on Siberia. However, an early failure to capture Vladivostock leads to a prolonged conflict.
The USA launches an unprovoked attack on Japanese merchant shipping and withholds vital resources from Japan. The IJN prepares to lure the US Navy into a trap and win the Battle of the Pacific.
With the Wehrmacht gallivanting in Russia, the CW and USA manage to successfully invade in NW France and form a bridgehead. Massive support by the Royal Navy and newly arrived US ground and air forces leaves the Axis on the defensive.
Despite US/CW forces in France, Germany captures many Russian cities -only Leningrad, Sevastopol, Rostov, Kalinin and Gorki stand between total German domination of European Russia.
In the desperate circumstances the Soviet High Command manage to negotiate a peace settlement with Japan - Mao vows never to trust Europeans again.
Despite the peace settlement, German forces capture Kalinin, Gorki and Rostov (on a second attempt). Rommel leads his armoured spearhead towards Sverdlovsk.
Italy occupies Riyadh (conquering Saudi Arabia) and Tanganyika.
Following this with a DoW on Portugal, as Il Duce’s forces enter Mozambique. The Portuguese throw in with the US.
Meanwhile, in southern France, an under-strength garrison in Bordeaux is overwhelmed. Germany collapses Vichy in order to put a strong force between the US forces and Turin.
In the F.E. Japanese Marines manage to land near Calcutta and capture the city before CW forces can reinforce the defences. In the Pacific theatre, some US carriers just manage to evade the IJN and flee to Honolulu.
Early 1943 sees the Allies begin to strike back. The CW with US naval support captures Tripoli in Libya – Il Duce demands German action.
Meanwhile, US radar developments lead to the destruction of a small Japanese taskforce near Guam.

Storms and rain linger in the Northern Hemisphere
As German forces withdraw from the coast towards Paris, US armoured forces cut-off the rearguard and only motorised forces breakout (GAR lost and MOT to Production Spiral) – Hex 1628.

Impulse 3
Italian naval bombers strike at US shipping in Tripoli
Italian naval bombers surprise US troop transports in Tripoli and wreak havoc (TPT lost). Italian success continues as the Marine Corps occupies Muscat in the Persian Gulf. Japanese forces withdraw across the Yangtze into Shanghai under pressure from large Communist forces.

Impulse 5
Blizzards hit the Arctic
In the snow, US forces swing south around the Massif Central in France.
Toulouse is liberated from the Axis.

Impulse 8

Axis forces in Siberia push on towards Sverdlovsk, despite the blizzards.
In southern France Axis forces withdraw in the face of the massive US armoured presence.

Impulse 1
Clear skies and sunshine apart from the North Monsoon
Italian submariners locate a major CW convoy due to a tip-off and sink some allied merchantmen (5 CPs). Other half of the convoy runs for home.
Escorting corvettes damage some submarines in the conflict. Further south, in the Gulf of Guinea the FF cruisers turn japanese subs back from a convoy.
A patrolling light cruiser squadron (Curacoa) off the coast of South Africa is caught by the Italian battleship fleet and sunk.
In Siberia the clear weather allows Axis Strategic Bomber Command to do considerable damage to Soviet production (-4PPs). At the same time Manstein unleashes a major offensive to capture Soviet cities. Kazan holds out (DR2 INF/INF), but Perm falls (DR9 INFx2). The last Soviet oilfields fall into Axis hands !

Impulse 2
US continues to push on in southern France
With a major German force still in Siberia, US forces can push on in southern France against only limited opposition.

Impulse 3
Skies are clear everywhere
Axis bombers do still more damage to Soviet production (1PP). In Siberia, Rommel launches a second major offensive. Kazan falls into German hands (INF), but near Sverdlovsk (Hex 2549) Soviet forces beat off German armour (DR3 -/INF). Italian forces continue to dominate the Indian Ocean and
Southern Africa, with the Italian Special Forces storming ashore near Karachi, and Cape Town being captured. The South African government flees muttering about lack of English and US support.

Impulse 4
Battle for the skies over France begins in earnest
The US Strategic Bomber Command launches a series of raids on southern and central Germany (1PP). Newly trained, long-range German fighters are caught by surprise due to the heavily armed US bombers (FTR3). With the arrival of the elite Canadian Armour Corps and Typhoon tank-busters in France the CW and US fighter wings try to clear German aviators from the French sky in order to break the German lines. However, the crack German pilots evade the massed fighter cover and decimate these newly-arrived tactical fighter-bombers (FTR2 – Typhoon).

In the Pacific, the US fleet arrives in the Marianas in order to wrest control of the Sea Zone.

Reinforcements – including marines and amphibious craft from the US set out for Honolulu.

Impulse 5
Rain returns to the North Monsoon region
The IJN launches a series of long-range raids to clear the Sea Zones around Hawaii. In the Mendocino Japanese carriers spot the US amphibious craft and accompanying marines and sink them (AMPH + MAR). Due to lack of radar, no other shipping is spotted.
Activity in Siberia slows down, although German bombers partially disrupt Soviet forces approaching from Karaganda. German armour pushes the Soviet mechanised forces back to Sverdlovsk, despite losses (INF), but remains disorganised. In France Kesselring and Runstedt work to reorganise essential elements of the Luftwaffe there.

Impulse 6
Free France occupies Liberia!
Free France – with US connivance – annexes the only independent African nation, Liberia! Meanwhile, in Europe, the CW launches its strategic bombers against Germany (1PP) and reorganises many Air Groups.
The Pacific theatre sees US naval bombers damaging the carrier Akagi, although the skilled japanese fighter pilots shoot up many of the escorting US fighters (P-51Ds – FTR2).

Impulse 7
Rain returns to the North Monsoon
German mechanised forces begin the encirclement of the Soviet Red Army concentration around Sverdlovsk.
On the Western Front, the Axis forces hold their lines in the north, but fall back into Italy in the south.

Impulse 8
German forces pushed back in Central France by US armoured Forces
CW bombers attempt to surprise the German Invasion Fleet in Kiel, but heavy AA (DR9) drives most of bombers off.
Tactical CW bombers in Central France are more successful – disrupting two German Corps. US armoured forces, supported by US parachutists, force these Corps to retreat. In the air-battle overhead, German pilots inflict heavy losses on US bombers (LND3 – Mitchell).

Impulse 9
Weather clears again.
Encirclement of Soviets in the Sverdlovsk region continues. Further south, in the Middle East, the Italian marines arrive near Aden.
Axis forces in France are re-distributed after the US success in Central France.

Impulse 10
US launches successful attack in Italy
Stalin strongly urges for aggressive action on the Western Front. US forces bomb Axis units on the Franco-Italian border and launch a successful assault – again including US parachutists. Il Duce insists on the destruction of all US paratroopers by his fighter pilots – special training is begun!
