Sept/October 1939

1. W = 4. GE (LAND) DoW Po (CW; +1 USE). GE ground strikes disrupt nothing of note. GE loses an AT gun taking Danzig (Assault: 20); loses an ART
taking Warsaw (Assault: 22); kills a lone Po INF (Blitz: 23+) and loses an INF DIV taking Krakow (Assault: 20). The GE player already hates the 2d10 chart,
losing 3 units in the first impulse in high odds attacks. @IT (Neutral) sends a TRS into the Red Sea to pick up an INF. @@JA enters a vacant Chengchou (No
USE) and loses an ENG and MIL taking and occupying Si-An (No USE).

2. CW (COMB) and FR (NAVAL) DoW GE (-1 USE). FR LND port attacks Kiel, damaging the Scharnhorst and the Graf Spee. @CW LND ground
strikes the GE Danish invasion force, disrupting 1 of the 2 corps. Po FTR and LND fly into Hu and are internned. @@CH (LAND) communists pull back line to
adjust for loss of Si-An.

3. W = 7. GE (LAND) takes hex north of Lodz (Blitz: 22) and reorgs the GE corps on the De border. @IT (Neutral) transports INF to Albania. @@ JA
flips into vacated hexes in north; loses an AT gun in south CH for no gain.

4. CW (NAVAL) slams Wavell HQ-A into the south of FR from Egypt.

5. W = 9*. GE Dows De (CW; No USE) in rain and runs corps into Fredrikshaven and Copenhagen. GE (LAND) attacks Lodz, unsuccessfully, and loses
an INF (Assault: 17).

6. CW embarks Gort HQ/BEF and sends them to the North Sea on TRS and SCS. @USSR occupies E.Po (No USE). Turn Ends.

Partisans: 1 on the Burma Oil and 1 in Korea (resource hex).
USEntry: New chit in JA pool. Option #9, Resources to CH (No Tension).
Known chits: GE/IT – x, x; JA – 3, 3.
RTB: BEF to FR.
Conquest: GE conquers De. Partisan damages Burma Oil.

Nov/Dec 1939

Lending: US>CH 1 res, 1 Oil; CW>FR 4 res, 1 Oil.
Initiative (X+2) X=10, A=3; Axis win and go first.

1. W=2 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) destroys the Po HQ west of Lodz (Assault: 23+) and takes Lodz (Assault: 23+) moving in an ENG after combat. @ IT
(Neutral) embarks and INF from Sardinia. @@JA (LAND) loses a MIL and ENG in south CH and fails to take the resource hex. JA kills the partisan in Ko.

2. CW (NAVAL) and FR (LAND) send strategic bombers into GE’s industrial heartland. The Brits drop their loads well short of the target, but the French
hit Munich for the loss of a production point.

3. W=3 (NT=Fine). IT (Neutral) DoWs Gr (CW: +1USE) and invades the southern
port (Kalamai) and marches into the NW Gr port. @GE (COMB) aligns Bu (+1 USE) and sends 3 cps into the Baltic for the Swe resources. The Bu INF takes
 the northern Gr port (Salonika).

4. CW (NAVAL) slams an INF into Athens, docking the Queens; a MOT and TRS move into Lemnos, Gr. Other troops are sent to the E. Med and stay

at sea.

5. W=1 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) transfers troops en masse to the western front. @IT (Neutral) returns to base a TRS/INF into the NW Gr. port. IT walks
an HQ into the port west of Athens.

6. CW (COMB) returns to base a MECH/TRS into Iraklion, Crete and debarks a 5-4 INF into Athens.

7. W=1 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) continues to mobilize on the Be border and along the Maginot.

8. CW (LAND) aligns Yu (-1 USE) and walks Yu CAV into Sophia, Bu. Turn ends.

Partisans: (DR:9) CH +2 (Shanghai and a resource hex).
USEntry: new chit to GE/IT. Option LiF 18, Resources to CW (+1 to tension).
Known chits prior to tension loss: GE/IT: 4, 3, 2, 1; JA: 3, 3.
Vichy: FR +1 (Paris).
Peace: GE repairs Lodz red factory; GE conquers Po; CW conquers Bu;
Partisan damages Shanghai major port.
Allied minor support: (CW supports Gr +1 USE).

Note: An oversight occurred in this turn: Crete, of course, is a territory and not part of the Gr home country. Technically, CW could not have aligned Yu and
subsequently conquered Bu, nor did they qualify for Allied minor support. This was not noticed until some time later.

Mar/Apr 1940

Lending: GE>IT, 5 res, 5 Oil; US>CW 2 Oil; CW>FR 4 res; CW>CH 1 res, 2 Oil.
Initiative (X+1) X=3, A=3; Allies win tie (no re-roll demanded) and go first.

1. W=3 (NT=Snow). CW (COMB) sends a fleet off the IT coast and damage 2 IT
CA’s with CVPs. CW also sends reinforcements to the North Sea and lands them in France. FR (LAND) reinforces its defensive line in Be and FR.

2. GE (LAND) aligns Ru as full ally (No USE) and sends them into Yu and Bu.
In Be, Stukas miss all ground strike targets but kill a FR FTR in the process. GE diverts some land units towards Yu and takes Be hex 1233 (Blitz: 18). GE reorgs.
@ IT (NAVAL) slams a GE MECH into Tripoli. IT SUBs find off Cape St. Vincent sinking 2 CW cps and aborting 3 more; 1 IT SUB is destroyed.

3. W=2* (NT=Snow). CW (COMB) replaces some cps and tries without success to find the IT convoys in the W.Med and It. Coast.

4. GE (COMB) sends a surface fleet (7 SCS) to the North Sea but doesn’t find the CW troop transports or convoy. GE takes another Be hex from FR
units (Blitz: not recorded). GE MECH runs up the Tunisian coast securing minor ports. @ IT (LAND) walks into Br. Somaliland. IT manoeuvres troops vs. Gr, the
south of FR and 1 hex into Egypt. @@ JA kills a partisan and closes the Burma Road politically (No USE). Turn Ends.

Partisans: (DR:5) Bu +1; Po +1 (resource hex).
USEntry: new chit to JA. Option 17, Lend-lease to CH (+1 to tension);

Lending: GE>IT, 5 res, 2 Oil; US>CW 3 Oil; CW>FR 4 res.
Initiative (X+1) X=9, A=1; Axis win and go first.

1. W=9 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) sends NAV to supplement fleet in N. Sea (3 box).
Disrupts 1 FR unit with ground strike and takes a resource hex in northern FR (Blitz: 23+) and breaks through an additional hex. GE kills the partisan in Po. @ IT
(NAVAL) sinks the CW convoy in the E. Med, slams the Rome MIL into a Gr. port, and sends a DIV to the E. Med on a CA. IT rebases a LND to GE. GE
MECH takes Tunis and heads west.

2. CW (COMB) shoots down an Me-109 while ground striking the GE breakthrough units. CW LND disrupts a GE ARM. GE activates when CW moves
troops to North Sea; GE aborts 2 cps and 2 CA’s before CW can debark troops into Rouen, FR. @ USSR (Neutral) DoWs Pe (-1 USE) and disrupts the Pe
CAV in Tehran with ground strikes.

3. W=8 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) ground strikes vs. CW in Lille don’t disrupt a thing. GE reorgs ARM and a/c. GE MECH continues west along the North
African coast. @ IT (LAND) rails MOT DIV to FR and invades Cyprus (Assault: auto).

4. CW (LAND) evacuates Lille, which has 4 GE hexes on it. @ USSR (Neutral) moves troops through mountains towards Tehran.

5. W=8 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) occupies Lille but has no luck trying to take a hex in FR and loses a MOT (Blitz: 14) while killing a FR MIL. GE and IT
(LAND) attempt to take a mountain hex in the south of FR on the IT border. GE loses a PARA in the failed attempt (Assault: 13).

6. FR (COMB) sends BB fleet to W. Med and finds the IT convoy and escort. FR sinks the Pola CA and has 2 of its BBs aborted. @ USSR takes
Tehran but loses 2 CAV to the valiant Pe CAV in the process (Assault: 15).

7. W=7 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) loses another MOT while taking FR hex 1232
(Blitz: 16). GE loses a stuka while aborting FR FTR. GE MECH enters Algiers.
GE takes CW held hex east of Rouen (Blitz: 17), FR. GE takes Zagreb, Yu (Assault: 23+). @ IT (NAVAL) sends a DIV to sea.

8. CW (NAVAL) and FR (LAND) SUBs find in Italian Coast and sink 2 IT cps. FR pulls out of Be forest hex 1031, leaving them holding 1 hex in Be in the
SW corner. Turn ends.

Partisans: (DR:10) none.
USEntry: new chit to JA. Option 13, Embargo on Strategic Materials (+1 to Tension).

Jul/Aug 1940

Lending: GE>IT, 5 res; US>CW 3 Oil; CW>FR 2 res; FR>CW 11 BPs.

Initiative (X+1) X=9, A=4; Axis win and go first.

1.            W=9 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) sends a FTR to the North Sea to cover NAV and GE fleet now in the 2 box. GE takes the CW held hex NE of Paris (Blitz:

23+) killing 2 CW units. IT (COMB) sends a SUB to the 2 box in Cape St. Vincent but doesn’t find. An IT FTR kills a CW CVP/Pil in the E.Med.

2.            CW (COMB) sends Alexander HQ to Nantes, FR. @ CH re-captures a vacant port on its east coast.

3.            W=4 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) makes a 2 hex attack on a second hex on Paris, held by Brits and fails in a costly battle (Blitz: 13) losing a MECH and an

SPG. CW loses a MIL. During ground support, GE FTR shoots down a CW LND-3 and a FTR-2. GE kills a Yu CAV (Assault: 23+) in the mountains south east

of Zagreb. GE reorgs in FR. @ IT (COMB) sends cps with escort to IT. Coast and damages a CW SUB that activates, with a/c that reacted in to the combat.

4.            CW (COMB) sends a loaded TRS to the North Sea; GE FTR kills a CW CVP in the ensuing combat. CW finally has enough Ind units and kills the partisan

on the Burma Oil (that has survived from the first turn of the game.) @ FR (COMB) flys a NAV to the Italian Coast where it aborts an IT LAND before being

destroyed by IT FTR.

5.            W=2 (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) blows an O-chit on Guderian HQ-A. GE shoots down a CW LND, attacks the CW held NW hex on Paris again and takes

it (Blitz: 21). A simultaneous attack on Metz is also successful; IT loses an ENG while FR loses a FTR to GE air, an AT gun and a corps (Assault: 19). GE reorgs.

6.            CW (COMB) sends more troops to the North Sea on TRS and SCS. GE naval air damages the DIV-laden CA. CW sends a fleet into the W.Med where

it sinks an IT cp. CW belatedly realizes Belgrade is about to be under siege and pulls units out of Bu.

7.            W=10* (NT=Fine). GE (LAND) attempts a 2-hex attack on a FR-held third hex on Paris (east) buts fails losing a MECH (Blitz: 10). GE takes the resource

hex west of Metz and loses an ENG. Belgrade falls to GE at the cost of an INF DIV (Assault: 22) and a Ru CAV walks into Sophia. GE is out of reorg

capabilities. @ IT (COMB) sends escorts to the W. Med but loses the cp there, along with a CA, to the CW fleet. IT damages a CW CA in the process.

8.            CW (COMB) damages another IT CA in the W.Med. FR (COMB) sails a fleet to the Italian Coast where it damages an IT CA and aborts another that

was carrying a DIV. FR counter-attacks a flipped GE INF and INF DIV stack but doesn’t take the hex (Blitz: 14); FR loses a MOT and GE loses a DIV.

9.            W=11** (NT=Fine) GE (COMB) with its FR force disrupted and out of HQs, sends SUBs to the Bay of Biscay and the North Sea. The SUB in BofB

does not find, but find in the North Sea sinking 3 and aborting 2 CW cps as the turn ends. @ JA (LAND) [who has been plugging away apparently unnoticed by

the clerics this turn] kills Mao HQ and takes the hex directly east of Lan Chow!

Turn ends.

Partisans: (DR:3) Fr Indo-China (Hanoi, resource hex).

USEntry: new chit to JA. No Options Chosen.

Chits shown this turn: GE/IT: X, X, X; GE/IT Tension: X, X, X.  JA:  X, X, X, X; JA Tension: X, X.

Vichy chits (net): FR ~0. GE: +4. IT +1.

Peace: GE conquers Yu; GE liberates Bu.

Jan/Feb 1941

Lending: GE>IT 5 res, 1 Oil; US>CW 4 Oil; CW>FR 1 res, 5 Oil; FR>CW 7 BPs.

Initiative (0) X=8, A=1; Allies demand re-roll; X=9, A=7 Axis win and go first.

1. W=9** (NT=Snow). GE (AIR), with 3 non-river hexes on Paris, flies ground strikes with 7 LNDs vs. hexes behind Paris (containing 3xHQs, ARM, 2xATs and

2xARTs), with 1 FTR escort. IT flies 1 LND-3 as well. FR responds with its 3 remaining FTRs (FTR-2, FTR-3, CVP-1). Amazingly, no aircraft are shot down. 1

GE LND and 3 FR FTRs are aborted. GE succeeds in flipping HQI, ARM (in forest, in snow), INF and Paris MIL. GE rebases NAV from Kiel to Konigsberg as

garrison, and 3 FTRs from GE to FR. GE reorgs aircraft with Guderian and Von Bock.

@ JA (COMB) ground strikes Lan Chow and flips a corps. With Mao HQ killed in a previous turn, JA waits to see if the weather improves and rebases more air to

within range.

2. CW (NAVAL) sends mini-fleets to all 3 seazones in the Med. but does not locate IT convoys.

@ FR (LAND) makes Pairs stronger and reorgs an aircraft, leaving 1 HQ face-up behind Paris.

3. W=5* (NT=Snow). GE (COMB) sends out SUB to Faeroes Gap and sinks 2 cps and aborts 2. GE attacks Paris. GE ground strikes 1 corps in Paris and the

HQ adjacent pre-empting any defensive HQ support. FR commits both adjacent ART. GE has a ground support Stuka aborted and aborts the FR fighter-bomber.

With a DRM of +4 (-4 snow, -1 city, -3 factories, +2 winterized corps, +2 HQ support, +1 HQ vs city, +2 flipped corps, ~2.5:1= +5) GE rolls a ‘7’ and loses a

MTN corps (Assault: 11).

@ JA decides a DRM of +2 vs Lan Chow is not worth the attempt and does not attack. Turn ends. Partisans: (DR:10) NEI gets a 1-2 partisan. USEntry: new chit

to JA. US chooses Option 22. US Gears up Production (+1 to JA Tension).

Chits shown this turn, prior to tension roll: GE/IT: 4, 3, 2, 1; GE/IT Tension: 4, 2, X. JA: 5, 3, 3, 2, X, X, X; JA Tension: 4, 3. Nazi-Soviet Pact: USSR defensive

chits: 0, 0, 1, 1, 2, 0. Offensive garrison chits: X, 2. Vichy chit totals: FR =17 (Net Index Value = 101), GE =13, IT =2 (Net Index Value = 61).

[Note: we replaced all the 1941 counters with old USEntry chits from a defunct set.]

Mar/Apr 1941

Lending: GE>IT 5 res; US>CW 3 Oil; CW>FR 3 res, 2 Oil; FR>CW 7 BPs.

Initiative (0) X=10, A=2; No re-roll demanded. Axis win and go first. 1.

W=7* (NT=Snow). GE (LAND) loses a Rummy LND-2 and shoots down a FR FTR (CVP) attempting a ground strike vs. FR hex 1128. GE takes the hex and

loses an SS MOT DIV, retreating the FR forces (Blitz: 16). GE reorgs. @ IT (COMB) rails a MOT to FR.

@@ In clear weather JA (COMB) slams the Tokyo MIL into Canton and attacks the southern resource hex (again) taking it after aborting the CH FTR and

disrupting a CH MIL with CVP tac points; JA loses a gun while CH loses an AT gun, MIL [Canton – an oversight since the front line is no place for Japanese-held

city MIL] and INF (Assault: 20).

2. CW (COMB) goes convoy hunting off the Italian coast but runs into a feisty air defence that sees both CW CVPs and a pilot killed and their CV’s aborted to

Gibraltar. One of the remaining CW escorts is aborted and the other follows voluntarily. In W. Med CW aborts the IT convoy but has 2 SCS aborted leaving its

CV with a single escort.

3. W=3 (NT=Snow). GE (LAND) finally determines it has enough units back from Yu to attack isolated Strasbourg, France that has been a screened hold out

behind the front. GE, with assistance from Guderian HQ-A and an IT ENG, takes the city killing a FR INF and GARR (Assault: 23+).

4. CW (COMB) sends another corps into Egypt from the Red Sea and bolsters it W. Med convoy hunters.

@ FR (LAND) maximizes its Paris defence, moving in a 3-factor AT gun.

5. W=4 (NT=Storm). GE (COMB) takes a hard look at Paris but without ground strike capability, sends out subs to the North Sea to attempt to cut the lend lease

line to FR as the turn ends (80% chance to end turn). GE subs sinks 2 cp and aborts the rest from the seazone and have a SUB damaged. GE rails the Ru HQ-I into

 Ploesti from Yu.

@ IT (NAVAL) also sends out subs to Cape Verde Basin and Cape St. Vincent to no avail. IT replaces a cp in the W. Med and puts to sea escorts in the 1 box

and pickets in the 4 in anticipation of the turn ending; CW finds but leaves the air protected cps alone and goes after the 1 box, damaging both IT CA’s.

6. CW (COMB) jumps at the unexpected impulse, replacing the lend-lease line in the North Sea. GE subs are submerged and do not find the Brit convoy.

@ FR (NAVAL) satisfied that its defence is maximized goes Vichy chit hunting in the Med. A FR BB fleet sails from Marseilles but does not find off the Italian

coast. FR subs sail from Syria to the E. Med where 1 SUB is sunk by an Italian NAV and LND combo; the other FR SUB is aborted after sending the IT cp to

port in the south of Gr.

7. W=8 (NT=Fine). The GE high command perks up: not only is there yet another impulse, but the weather clears in France. With its army mostly where it needs

to be GE (COMB) sends its 7 SCS fleet through the North Sea undetected and makes the Faeroes Gap to surface raid convoys. Neither the surface raiders nor

the SUB in the North Sea find any targets, much to the CW’s relief. GE rails a MTN from Yu to Ploesti. GE ground strikes Paris and disrupts the entire defence.

GE 2- factor ENG, HQ-I and an IT ENG lead the assault that finally sees Paris fall (Assault: 25) [DR: 14].

@ JA takes mountain hex 0634 in northern CH (Assault: 22) that now gives JA 3 hexes on the Cheng-Tu/ Chungking valley from the north. Turn (finally) ends.

Partisans: (DR:8) Gr gets a partisan in Salonika minor port. India, despite its residual garrison of 5 Burma partisan killers, receives a partisan that is placed on a

central resource. USEntry: new chit to JA. US chooses Option 24. Re-open Burma Road (No Tension), Option 23. Freeze Japanese Assets (+1 to JA Tension).

Chits shown/known this turn, prior to tension rolls: GE/IT: 4, 3, 2, 1; GE/IT Tension: 4, 2, X. JA: 5, 3, 3, 2, X, X, X; JA Tension: 4, 3, X. Nazi-Soviet Pact: USSR

 defensive chits: 0, 0, 1, 1, 0. Offensive garrison chits: X, X, 2, 2; Units garrison = 47. German defensive garrison (units and chits) = 28. Vichy Index: France = 93;

Axis = 95. [Note: when we ran out of Vichy chits, we decided to write down a ‘4’ for each chit we did not have that was awarded.

Jul/Aug 1941

Lending: GE>IT 5 res, 1 Oil; US>CW 4 Oil; CW>FF 1 res, 3 BPs; CW>CH 2 res, 1 Oil.
Initiative (Allies +1) X=3, A=6; Allies win and go first.

1. W=8 (NT=Fine). CW (LAND) Moves west in France towards Brest and Nantes. @ FF (COMB) sends convoy escorts off the West African coast. FF,
whose units teleported to Mauritania from Vichy, moves an HQ towards the coast in search of supply; 2 FTR-2s begin a long rebase across Africa towards Egypt.
@@ USSR (Neutral) reinforces its gathering army in Siberia with an HQ and SKI DIV and send a SUB to the South China Sea. At least four LND-4s are within
reach of the JA SYNTH guarded by a lone squadron of Zekes, but no DoW is offered.

2. GE (LAND) grounds strikes Gr MTN in the mountain hex NW of Athens. GE troops in France catch the Brit rearguard in France and kill a GARR and
an INF DIV (Blitz 23+). GE garrisons Vichy cities. Rommel HQ-A and Guderian HQ-A are re-assigned to take charge of Army Group Centre and Army Group
South respectively and begin rolling their tanks east. GE @ IT (COMB) sails a MOT division on a CA to the E. MED avoiding CW naval and air patrols, and
offloads it into Bardia, Li. @@ JA (COMB) slams a MAR on a TRS into New Caledonia and walks a unit into Hanoi. JA then attacks the valley hex west of
Chungking and takes it, killing 2 Nationalist corps (Assault: 23+) and theCH FTR and Pilot.

3. W=2 (NT= Fine). CW (COMB) slams troops into western France to bolster the withdrawing BEF and picks up a GARR from the northern coast with a
TRS in the North Sea. @ FF air continues their journey across the African continent. @@ USSR (Neutral) sends out another SUB to the Mariannas sea zone and
continue to threaten Manchuria and Japanese production.

4. GE (LAND) sends a NAV to the 3-box in the W. Med. The Wehrmacht attacks CW troops in France and retreat Alexander HQ into Nantes, losing yet
another FTR and pilot to Brit air (Blitz: 21). GE forces head east and southeast from France. @IT (COMB) sends a small surface fleet of CAs to the Italian Coast.
A combined army of IT and GE forces take out the flipped Gr MTN northwest of Athens (Assault: 21). @@ JA (NAVAL) sends out carriers, escorts and
pickets to key sea zones.

5. W=5 (NT=Fine). CW (COMB) reinforce a flipped Alexander HQ in Nantes with a 2-factor ENG. @ FF (COMB) continues it air rebases in Africa
and slowly moving its land forces to the coast in Mauritania.

6. GE (COMB) sends 4 SCS surface raiders to the Faeroes Gap, eluding Brit patrols in the North Sea. They surprise a large convoy and chase away 2 CW
CAs and 3 cps before they lose them. The GE army, with its morale high, attempts a 1-hex attack on 2 flipped Brits north of Nantes. They lose a LND-3 to British
FTRs but take the hex, retreating the CW troops (blitz: 20). Rundstedt HQ-A reorgs the flipped units. @ IT (COMB) sends out subs past Gibraltar but hunting is
poor.

7. W=2 (NT=Fine). CW (NAVAL) sends transports and big naval guns with carriers to the Bay of Biscay. The convoy line is repaired and a carrier fleet in
the W. Med in reinforced. An air battle ensues with reacted-in Axis air and the British fleet. CW CVPs abort a GE NAV then loses a CVP to an IT NAV that is
also aborted. In the E. Med an IT LND-3 is shot down with Pilot by a newly arrived carrier squadron, and a CA is aborted to Kalamai, Gr. @ FF (COMB) finally
lands its FTRs in Egypt to many British cheers.

8. GE (LAND) has its third shot at Alexander with a 5-hex attack on Nantes.
He manages to escape once more since the CW has managed to reinforce him into a 3 unit stack each time, but an INF dies (Assault: 21). Once more GE retreats
rather than shatters him, since he will shortly have no retreat path. Rommel HQ-A arrives in southeast Po and relieves von Leeb HQ-I who heads north towards the
coast. GE sends troops south with von Bock HQ-I towards Bordeaux and the Pyrenees. @ IT (COMB) sends BBs to the E. Med to provide shore bombardment,
with FTR and NAV cover in the 2-box. A CW NAV is shot down before the fleets lose sight of each other. IT ground strikes Athens, flipping a CW INF. On the
subsequent 2-hex attack, combined GE and IT land forces fail to take it, but do not lose any units (Assault: 13). The turn ends on a roll of 2.

Partisans: (DR: 8) France (1 on a flipped Stuka in Bordeaux, destroying it);
Vichy France (1 on the resource hex); Guderian HQ-A, with a stopover in Yu on his way to Ru, helps the vigilant garrison troops suppress any partisan activity.
USEntry: new chit to JA pool. No options chosen.

RTB: IT returns 3xBB to Kalamai, Gr.; GE surface raiders sail into LaRochelle, France; USSR naval units in the Pacific sail back to Vlad.Nazi-Soviet Pact: USSR
defensive = 57, offensive 42 + 2 chits; GE offensive = 29 + 15 chits; defensive = 52.

Notes: No US options have been played since it froze JA assets; the USSR, while building up in Siberia (2x HQs, 2x INF, MECH DIV, 2x SKI DIV, CAV,

1. W=1 (NT=Fine). CW (COMB) sends a large fleet with TRS and AMPH to the Bay of Biscay and extracts the survivor Alexander HQ along with 3
corps and divisions from France, leaving 2 corps in Brest. A TRS in the North Sea also aids the extraction, picking up a GARR from the north coast of France.
@ FF (LAND) continues to organize its forces in Mauritania and Senegal. The French partisan overruns a GE LND-3 in Bayonne and it rebases to LaRochelle.
@ USSR (Neutral) sends a SUB out to the Mariannas sea zone.

2. GE (LAND) attacks the remnants of the BEF (2x corps) in Brest, killing them both (Blitz: 18). @ IT (COMB) flies naval bombers with fighter cover into
the E. Med (2-box) and sails 4x SCS as well (4-box) vs. a small CW supply fleet with air cover (1 and 2 boxes). IT, FF and CW all react in fighters and a Rummy
LND-2 joins in with an IT NAV-2 to cover the Italian convoys. After the CW air cover is aborted and IT naval air damages the TRS (putting the CW INF in
Athens out of supply)and a BB, CW fleet voluntarily aborts from the sea zone along with the FF fighters. GE ground strikes fail to flip either corps in Athens and the
second assault on the city falls short, IT loses a MOT DIV and the Athens MIL dies (Assault: 17). @@ JA (LAND) takes the eastern most forest resource hex in
southern CH.

3. W=6 (NT= Fine). CW (COMB) extracts its INF from Athens then reinforces it with the Gr MTN that came on outside the city on the peninsula.
@ FF (LAND) suicides out with the partisan against a lone ENG in Bordeaux, but simply dies in dramatic fashion instead (Assault: 5) @@ USSR (COMB) DoWs
JA (-2 USE) and sends a SUB to the sea of Japan, where it is aborted while aborting a JA CA. The SUB in the Mariannas sinks the cp. USSR ground strikes four
hexes with 4x LND-4s, flipping a MOT west of Vlad stacked with a TERR, a GARR south of Vlad in Ko, and an HQ in Port Arthur, essentially the entire
Manchurian defence other than a weak GARR in Mukden. USSR attacks west out of Vlad with an HQ, Siberian INF and a gun, killing a MOT and a Manchurian
TERR, but loses the Siberian and the gun (Assault: 19).

4. GE (LAND) kills the partisan in VF. @ IT (LAND) rails an ENG to Salonika, GR, where it and a GE LND-3 - are reorged by Guderian HQ (who
cant seem to get to his assignment in Ru). IT reorgs its assault forces in Greece. @@ JA (COMB) slams units into Korea and Manchuria.

5. W=6 (NT=Fine). CW (NAVAL) has a small reinforcement fleet with a CVL stopped in the W. Med, by a GE NAV and IT FTR, which was bound for
the E. Med. In the E. Med a fresh fleet from Aden braves the Axis air umbrella but voluntarily aborts, again, after having a CVP shot down and 2 CAs, a BB and a
CV aborted. @ USSR (LAND) rails a MECH and a battalion of rocket trucks to Vlad, then revels in its new ability to set up a proper line in Poland and the
Ukraine. Two divisions (MECH and CAV) take Harbin and walk south along the railways towards Mukden.

6. GE (LAND) once again fails in an attempt to disrupt the now lone Gr MTN in Athens. @ GE, limited to a single corps (1 still flipped), and IT (COMB)
attack Athens for the third time, and it holds again (Assault: 8) against a roll of 3. IT loses an ENG and MOT. @@ JA pulls a MAR out of New Caledonia into
Port Arthur, replacing it with a MTN DIV. Mukden is reinforced and the weak GARR flips west into the mountains. FTRs/CVPs arrive from CH and Japan.

7. W=7 (NT=Rain). CW (LAND) moves an Ind INF next to Fr. Indo China where it flips out of supply. @ USSR moves a CAV DIV into a gap in the
newly forming Japanese defence line, directly east of Mukden. An HQ and a corps are railed to the city north of Mukden from Poland. Turn ends.

1. W=7* (NT= Snow) GE (LAND) kills a Fr. Indo China partisan with its newly arrived TERR (Assault: auto). @ IT (COMB) flies naval air with fighter
cover and follows up with 3x BB from Salonika to the E. Med. Combined Axis forces renew their siege of Athens and attack it again, this time in the rain.
Naval guns add their support but newly reactivated MIL and the Gr MTN hold the city once more (Assault: 11). @@ JA (COMB) sends units from Japan,
Manchuria and Korea north to bolster its defensive line (essentially a straight east-west line from Korea through Mukden to the western Manchurian resource hex,
except for the infiltrating Russian CAV division). JA attacks the lone USSR CAV division and kills it while losing a Manchurian TERR
(Assault: 22) tenuously securing Mukdens eastern flank and eliminating the Soviet salient.

2. CW (COMB) sails a 3x CV, TRS and 11 SCS fleet to the E. Med from Alexandria to punish the Italians and lend support to the valiant Greeks in
Athens. CW naval air aborts 2 of the 3 IT BBs before losing them in the rain. FF (COMB) MAR arrives in Gibraltar, where there is now a TRS and AMPH.

were threatening the Baltic on the east coast of England. Fr. Indo China TERR kills the 1 factor partisan in the mountains south of Hanoi and manages to stay alive
in the process (Assault: 18). IT (LAND) reorgs its exhausted troops in Greece.

4. CW (NAVAL) sends an aggressive fleet to the Faeroes in search of the reported GE surface raiders but does not locate them. A CW ENG arrives off
the coast of southeast Asia. CW activates in the E. Med but is once again found by the Axis air cover (2x IT FTR, 2x IT NAV and 2x Ru LND-2s) that shoots
down yet another CW CVP. Italian and Rumanian bombers then sink the Ark Royal with its full compliment of aircraft and pilots. @@ FF DoWs VF (n/a USE)

5. W=6 (NT=Fine). GE (COMB) having successfully drawn off the Sunderlands and noting the only immediate Allies land response is in Gibraltar threatening the Med, DoWs No (USSR; No USE) USSR sets up the MTN and SKI in Oslo.
GE lands a MAR, MTN and MTN division a hex east of Kristianland, from a fleet in the Baltic. @ IT (COMB) sends a wp GARR on a TRS, along with 2x SCS
to the W. Med under GE NAV and IT FTR cover then debarks the GARR into Tripoli, doubling its defence. IT mounts its fifth attack on the Greek capital. The
attacks fails with the Axis losing 3 units (Famous 14) including an IT MTN division, a GE INF division and a GE INF, while only killing the cat-like Athens MIL.

1. W=2 (NT= Rain) GE (COMB) flies naval air to the W. Med, and reinforces its Norway invasion force with an SS MECH from a TRS that sailed from Memel, E. Prussia. GE rails an ENG to Greece where it hopes it is not needed. GE sends a MTN div to secure the resource and port in western Norway. Guderian HQ-A, fed up with the pathetic efforts by troops nominally under his control in Greece, takes matters into his own hand by leading a final assault on the Greek capital. The GE MECH, recalled for other duty, pulls out of the thin Italian line in Egypt. Grazianni HQ-A expresses concern. @ IT (COMB) sends battleships with escort to the E. Med with naval air. Sp CAs sail to the Cape Verde Basin against CW TRS laden with FF troops but have no luck. @ IT (NAVAL) sends air and a small CA fleet to bolster the Axis presence in the W. Med. IT sends subs to Cape St. Vincent but only manages to damage a CW CA before the subs are aborted. An IT MECH from Athens slams into Bardia, Li. @@ JA (COMB) relieves a TERR in Mukden with Yamashita HQ-I. JA takes Chang-Sha in southern CH (Assault: 21) without a loss (No USE).

4. CW (COMB) flies a FTR-2 and sails a CV fleet to the W. Med where they shoot down an IT FTR-1 and sink the IT CV with plane and pilot. A CW MIL debarks into Narvik, No. @ USSR (LAND) has 2x LND-4s aborted attempting to ground strike Mukden aborted and decides to hold off its planned attack on the last Manchurian factories.

5. W=4* (NT= Storm) GE (COMB) sends a reorged AMPH out to the Baltic and walks an SS INF to the coast. Sp CAs are surprised off the African coast; one is damaged and another aborted. The GE CV fleet still cannot locate the CW Narvik reinforcement fleet in the Norwegian Sea. A GE MAR walks across to the coastal hex southeast of Oslo. IT (LAND) moves a MECH into the line to replace the GE MECH that is slowly making its way west.

6. CW (NAVAL) sends more LBA to the W. Med and has a FTR-2 aborted and a NAV-4 killed along with its pilot. In the E. Med a CW CV fleet aborts an IT TRS and 2x BBs into Athens, Gr. @ USSR (NAVAL) sails convoys to the North Sea and Norwegian Sea, then sails the Black Sea fleet. AA guns in Mukden open up halving the support. The 2-hex attack, with HQs on both sides lending their support, fails; USSR loses a MECH and a GARR while JA loses the AA gun (Assault: 16).

4. GE (COMB) sends 3x Spanish CAs with a GE convoy point to the zero box in the W. Med from Barcelona and embarks a GE MOT DIV from Marsailles. CW chooses not to activate, due to Axis naval air, and GE lands the division in Tangiers, Er Rif. GE rails a motorized AA gun to Ru. GE attacks Oslo and takes it, killing a No SKI, a USSR white print advisor and retreating the USSR wp 8-1 GARR (Assault: 23+). @ IT (COMB) DoWs the US (+6 USE), then picks up a PARA DIV with an SCS off the Italian Coast and lands it in Greece. The Rome MIL debarks onto an HQ east of Bardia in Egypt. @@ JA (Super-Combined) DoWs CW, FF and USA (+12 USE) blows its O-chit and port strikes the 20 ship US fleet in Rabaul. JA air sinks the CV Hornet, the CV Yorktown and damages the CV Lexington (on a saved 'X')and a couple of CAs.
JA sinks the 5x Allied cps in the South China Sea and others, but fails to get Rabaul out of supply. Subsequent ground strikes by CVPs fail to flip anything in Rabaul so JA invades on either side of it with INF and DIVs. JA invades the Philippines with MARs and lands a couple of ENGs on two Oil hexes in the NEI. JA counter-attacks the Mukden assault force, killing an ART, and flips.

Russia, in disarray in the west, extracts what units it can to try and form a line but ZOCs, river breaches, breakthroughs and supply problems hinder them. USSR belatedly pulls some units out of the line in Manchuria to railheads, but many including the air are disrupted from the failed attack on Mukden.

In the Pacific, US takes Bangkok (Assault: 23) with shore bombardment. @@ CH (LAND) attacks the flipped and oos JA stack that had vacated Hanoi and spirals 2x corps. JA loses a DIV (Blitz: 21).

4. IT (COMB) flips a corps in Rabat with ground strikes from a couple of NAVs. @ GE (LAND) rails Franco HQ-I, Model HQ-I and an ART to the line in France. Ground strikes in Russia fail. GE and Sp units attack Rabat, Morocco from 2 hexes and roll well, taking the FF capital (Assault: 23) and capture a stored build point. GE kills a Soviet GARR in Estonia and breaks through (Blitz: 23). GE flips all but 1 HQ and reorgs air and land units in Russia and France. @@ JA (COMB) attempts to slam a wp GARR into Port Arthur but is forced to stop by the US fleet. A MAR walks into Manchuria from China. JA rebases CVPs to Manchuria.

5. W=7 (NT= Fine). CW (COMB) port strikes an IT TRS in Barcelona, damaging it. @ US (LAND) and CW troops take another hex in France, east of LaRochelle (Blitz: 18) retreating the defenders. @@ FF (LAND) and other Allied troops counter-attack Rabat, but fall just short of re-taking it (Assault: 19). GE loses a GARR and a PARA DIV; FF loses and ENG and ART. A FF MAR and a CW MAR DIV land in northwest Spain in an oos hex near Ferol. @@@ USSR partisans kill a lone GE MOT DIV in southern Russia, rolling 19(Assault: 23).

6. GE (LAND) uses an Offensive chit to reorg 8x HQs. Ground strikes in Estonia actually work flipping 2x USSR corps. Another ground strike finally flips a lone Russian INF that has tied up units in the Rumanian swamps. GE rails Manstein HQ-A to Vigo, Sp putting a Sp CAV in supply, which moves into Ferol to refuse another Allied port in Europe. The Russians in Estonia die (Blitz: 23+) as do pair of partisans in southern Russia (Blitz: 23). The stranded Russian INF in Rumania is sent home as well (Assault: 23). @ IT (COMB) flips the last CW unit in Egypt with a FTR-2 and kills it. @@ JA (LAND) attempts to ground strike the single oos and surrounded Russian in Mukden to no avail, then reorgs an INF in Manchuria with a TRS in the China Sea, rebases another CVP and prays the turn does not end.

7. W= 10* (NT= Fine). USSR (LAND) grounds strikes east of Minsk flipping a GE corps then attacks, taking the hex (Blitz: 16) by retreating the defenders and losing a MECH. USSR does not advance into the hex.

8. GE (LAND) reinforces Rabat. GE attacks Zhukov HQ-A stack in order to gain a fourth hex on Kiev, but rolls poorly and loses a MOT DIV (Blitz: 14). In the north, GE kills an ART and spirals a corps taking the last Russian hex in Estonia, leaving a clear run for Leningrad for the moment (Blitz: 22). @ IT (LAND) rails an HQ from Egypt to northern Syria. @@ JA (LAND) ground strikes fail once more but attacks with his lone 2 face up units anyway in a desperate bid to prevent conquest. He rolls well but both attackers die along with the Russian (Assault: 14). He eyes a Manchurian TERR that has been inching along all turn but is still not quite there. JA player converts to Buddhism and assumes the lotus position.

9. W= 5 (NT= Fine). US (COMB) port strikes the remnants of an IT fleet in St. Nazaire, Fr. IT calls off the combat with surprise points. @ USSR (COMB) sails its Baltic Sea fleet from Leningrad and finds, killing 4 of 5 GE cps.

10. IT (COMB) activates in Cape St. Vincent and damages a CW CA with a US DIV. @ GE (LAND) attempts to kill Zoya HQ-P with a bunch of units but fails, losing a Ru MECH, while Zoya loses a 0factor partisan she was stacked with (Blitz: 14). @@ JA (COMB) sends cps to the zero and what ships it can muster to the 1 box of the Sea of Japan. JA walks the Manchurian TERR adjacent to Mukden, converts to Shintoism and makes many offerings to the ancestors.

11. W= 4 (NT= Fine). US (COMB) sends a whack of subs to the Sea of Japan but does not find. The main US fleet in the China Sea, however, finally does find and Japan is in a world of hurt. JA takes its lumps for 1 round of naval combat vs. 128 US surface factors (4X, 2D, 2A) and aborts to Tokyo.

The US loses 3x CA. @ CW (NAVAL) does not sail anything but uses the impulse to reorg a number of ships in England. @@ FF (LAND) launches yet another suicide attack against Rabat, since they will all die at the end of the turn anyway, but it holds a third time (Assault: 10). The JA player leaves the room while the end of turn roll is made.

12. GE (NAVAL) sends cps with escorts and naval air to the Baltic, sails a cp and Rummy CA to the Black Sea, 2x cps to the W. Med from Spain and France. The Graf Zeppelin with 6x CA sails from Cadiz to the Bay of Biscay. @ IT (COMB) flies 2x NAV and sails BBs to the Bay of Biscay. The Axis find a number of times before getting spanked by a far superior Allied force, sinking all the Allied cps, a TRS, 2x CA, CVL (Langley II) and an AMPH. The Allies suffered several damages and aborts as well, essentially clearing the zero and the 1 boxes. Finally the real fleet finds and sinks the Graf Zeppelin and 2x Sp CA. Argentinian SCS are damaged as is an IT BB. IT also loses both NAVs. @@ JA (LAND) is exultant and walks the TERR into Mukden, once again averting disaster. He reverts to agnosticism(sic). 1.      W=11** (NT= Fine). GE (LAND) happy with the unseasonable rain in the Arctic, ground strikes US forces in France with 3x ART, flipping a unit in each target hex (ENG, ARM, MECH). GE also ground strikes the lead USSR hex (2-ENG, GBA ARM, GBA MECH) in Rumania, flipping all three. A spiralled Finn MOT has arrived in Helsinki putting the kybosh on Russia’s plans for an easy conquest of Finland, for the moment: 2x USSR corps are blocked on the Hango peninsula by a Fi MIL in 1 hex and a SKI and the MOT in Helsinki.

Spanish units take over the hex west of Toulon from the Italians and GE pulls back a hex in northwest France, leaving a cheap speed bump behind. @IT (LAND) kills another USSR CAV running amok in the Syrian desert, after ground striking it (Assault: 23) and 2x slow moving GARR close in on the flipped, oos Russian CAV in Jordan, that could not reorg last turn.

2.      CW (NAVAL) and @ US (LAND) fly ground strike missions in France and, although 1x GE FTR is killed, US loses a LND and others are aborted. A LND clears and flips a DIV in Nantes. US forces kill the lone GE speed bump (Blitz: 23) and take Nantes (Assault: 23). GE loses Franco HQ-I and a MTN DIV in the attack across the Loire on 2 sides (US player rolled a ‘20’); an INF is spiralled. US invades the Korean west coast, led by an armoured MAR, killing the notional (Blitz: 23). @@ CH (LAND) blows an O-chit on Mao HQ-I and flips 2x JA corps in Si-an through ground strikes by Nationalist air.

The Chi-coms assault across rivers and take the city, killing a JA INF and INF DIV; the other corps is spiralled. @@@ USSR sends 2 unescorted LND-4s to Ploesti on a strategic bombing run. 1 of  2x GE FTR is shot down after killing an 18-range LND-4; the other bomber is cleared and hits the Oil for all 3 points.

3.      W= 12 ** (NT= Rain) [I don’t remember a louder cheer in reaction to a weather roll – by the Axis players, of course... –Ed.] GE (LAND) rails reinforcements to France and Rumania and scrambles to maximize his overtaxed defences. GE forms a line in northwest France, leaving a single INF in the forest resource hex directly in front of the line – a speed bump if nothing else. @ IT (COMB) sails its long-idle fleet from LaSpazia, including 2 of its 3x CV, on a pleasure cruise to the eastern end of the Italian Lake (E. Med). IT sends a NAV to the Arabian Sea and activates; CW reacts a FTR from Bombay but neither side finds. Ground strikes in France and Iraq miss.

@@ JA (LAND) pulls back its line in the south into the mountains and covers the hole east of Si-an.

4.      US (LAND) kills the speed bump in France (Blitz: 23) but doesn’t like its chances elsewhere in the unseasonable rain. @ CH (LAND) sends ground strikers in an attempt to rupture the JA line, but misses. CH attacks anyway and rolls low in a low-odds attack (Assault: 11). CH’s only loss was taken by a Partisan.

5.      W= 9 (NT= Fine). IT (LAND) sends another NAV to the Arabian Sea then ground strikes a wp USSR MIL attempting to flank the main force in Iraq. IT then kills the MIL (Blitz: 23). IT kills the flipped and oos USSR CAV that had liberated Jordan and loses both its attackers in the process when the IT player rolls the notorious assault result (Assault: 14). IT loses a 4-1 GARR and the Palestine TERR. IT also takes over (moves northeast) a hex in the central mountains in southern France from the Germans. @ GE (LAND) attempts ground strikes vs US, CW and USSR; all LNDs are cleared but none hit any of their targets. GE rails a MAR to Helsinki from Rumania. GE presses an attack northeast of Lille, Fr., vs a FF MAR, CW MAR and CW MAR division. GE has several ARM and MECH but disaster strikes when he rolls a ‘6’ and flips virtually his entire CW containment force in that area (Blitz: 12). @@ JA (COMB) sneaks past a US fleet in the Sea of Japan with troops on a lone AMPH and reinforces Korea.

6.      USSR (LAND) blows an O-chit on Zhukov. Russian ground strikes fail for the most part with Russian losing 2x FTR, 2x LND and many aborted to 1x GE FTR killed. In the one hex where USSR was not intercepted, air disrupts a corps and a division. In the swamp northeast of Riga, USSR loses a FTR during ground support and both sides clear a LND. The attacks flounders in the swamp (Assault: 17) with each taking a loss (both lose guns).

Further south, just west of the swamps, Russia takes a hex by retreating the defenders (Blitz: 17). East of Lvov, Po., USSR loses another LND but doubled units take the hex (Blitz: 23+) then breakthrough and overrun Mannerheim HQ-I in Lvov with doubling saved for this purpose. In Rumania, USSR uses doubled troops to take a hex, but the defenders miraculously live, retreated, when the USSR player rolls a ‘2’ (Blitz: 16). @ CW (LAND) grounds strikes vs flipped Lille are aborted but PARA are cleared along with 24 points of ground support (mainly from Liberators and B-17s, etc., led by a couple of crappy CVPs to take any hits). GE loses a Stuka and another is cleared for 7 points but Lille falls in any case, with only the 3-factor SS ENG surviving but shattered (Assault: 22). The Allies lose a FF MAR.

South of Cherbourg, CW takes a hex and retreats the defenders into Cherbourg, flipped and oos, cutting them off with ZoC (Blitz: 20). Unfortunately, CW has to lose its armoured MAR division that has been so effective against the northern coast in Europe. @@ US (COMB) activates a SUB in the W. Med without luck. In Korea, US makes no headway against the port, Fusan, in a stalled attack using shore bombardment (Assault: 13).

7.      W= 8 (NT= Fine). GE (LAND) scrambles to fix the hole in its line in E. Poland at Lvov, but has to leave a gap at the mountains further south.

GE risks an HQ by moving it alone into the hole south of Cherbourg, putting the retreated units back in supply. The turn ends (to the chagrin of the Allies).

1.      W=5 (NT= Fine). CW (NAVAL) sends a fleet to the Sea of Japan, fails to locate the JA supply fleet but forces JA to commit several of its diminishing forces of LBA to the potential combat. CW picks up its units from the hex in rance, near Cherbourg, where they were facing the lone GE HQ. CW ground strikers flip a GE MECH in northwestern France. @ US (LAND) attempts to ground strike 2x adjacent hexes in France just north of the central mountains, but an large accurate flak battalion leaves each bomber with only a point that fail to disrupt the defenders (GE rolled a min.

3’ on each of the –1/6 AA rolls). Another ground strike across the Loire River flips a GE MECH. US replaces the CW units that pulled out to the North Sea and attacks the lone GE HQ, from a single hex with shore bombardment.

GE ground support helps save the HQ when it is merely retreated back to the lines (Blitz: 17). US retreats another GE speed bump, in front of its main line of defence, back into friendly territory (Blitz: 17) where it is quickly re-assigned as breakthrough prevention for its sector. A US attack against the flipped AA gun stack fizzles (Blitz: 12). In the Pacific Theatre, a US MAR walks onto a southern JA home country island from Korea, in search of a port. A planned attack against Fusan, Korea is cancelled when the odds don’t appeal to the US player, even with shore bombardment and projected ground support. @@ USSR (LAND) strat bombs Mukden for –2 production points. Ground strikes in Manchuria only manage to flip a JA division; no attack ensues. In the west, USSR takes a hex in E. Poland just south of the west end of the Pripets (Blitz: 23) killing a GE INF and INF division. USSR also attacks sacrificial units in Chisnau, Rumania, killing them both (GE MIL and Ru INF(h)) but loses a precious ENG (Assault: 22). @@@ CH breaks the JA line in Central China and kills a JA HQ in the process.

2.      IT (COMB) sends 2x CV, 1xBB and 1x CA to the Arabian Sea after flying a NAV there. IT, with a long-range FTR escort, sends a Piaggio against the US lines in France and grounds strikes, flipping an ARM. IT tweaks its front vs USSR scrub troops in Iraq. @ GE (LAND) pulls back a hex in France and E. Poland and several hexes in the North, leaving a garrison behind in Riga (INF, MIL, MOT division, AMPH, TRS, 2x CA) and a flank guard in the swamp north of the city. @@ JA (LAND) flips a wp unit into the port island directly east of the US MAR in Japan and contains the salient in China as best it can.

3.      W= 7 (NT= Rain) US (NAVAL) sends a major fleet to the Sea of Japan but doesn’t find. A smaller fleet has similar results in the China Sea. A token US fleet also sails to the Arabian Sea without seeing action. @CW (LAND) invades Denmark near the border with Germany (Assault: 23+). @@ USSR (LAND) loses a FTR in an attempted ground strike against oos German forces in Poland but has no luck disrupting the enemy. USSR attacks the Leipzig MIL alone in the swamps northeast of Riga, Latvia and kills it (Assault: 23+) giving Russian forces 3x hexes on Riga. USSR loses a MECH DIV in an attack against a GE HQ stack in mid-Poland and only manages to kill a GE MOT DIV.

Further south in Poland, oos German units hold their ground at the cost of an AT gun; Russia loses a MECH DIV and a SKI. Russia reorgs.

4.      IT (NAVAL) reinforces its naval presence in the Arabian Sea. Italy’s 4x TRS sail and pick up units around the Med, including a TERR that has been quietly guarding the Sardinian resource since 1940. IT attempts to ground strike US forces in France but its LND-3 is shot down by a weak squadron of CW String-bags, that also die (–4/+4, no less). @ GE (COMB) sails from Riga with its entire garrison and slams them into Aarhus, De, complicating the British attempt to liberate the Danes. Both corps in Copenhagen also advance across the straits to meet the CW beachhead. @@ JA (NAVAL) sends a fleet with an AMPH to a high box in the China Sea. Japanese naval air manages to abort a US TRS carrying a MAR back to Manilla.

5.      W= 2 (NT= Fine). CW (LAND) reinforces its invasion force in De by air. A CW PARA lands without issue, but GE air aborts the CW ATR carrying a US PARA forcing it to land disrupted. @ US (LAND) debarks a Mexican corps into Korea. @@ USSR occupies vacated Riga and closes with the retreating GE forces, but declines to enter a vacant hex in E. Prussia, conveniently left open by GE. Russia loses a FTR and has a LND aborted in Rumania, but shoots down a Rummy FTR as well. USSR attacks west of Chisnau and takes the hex in spite of GE HQ support, spiralling the defenders (Blitz: 20). In southern E. Poland, USSR loses a FTR and a LND while GE clears in ground support, but Russian armoured units take the hex anyway, killing an air-landing DIV and retreating the remaining defenders (Blitz: 22). Farther north, USSR takes another hex at the cost of a wp MECH corps and retreats the Germans (Blitz: 16). @@@ CH (LAND) takes Wah-An in mid-China with a low odds assault that kills both JA defenders to the loss of a INF DIV (Assault: 22).

6.      IT (COMB) sails a MAR and ENG on ships to the Red Sea. IT activates in the Arabian Sea but fails to get Aden oos and has a NAV aborted. IT moves a unit into the vacant capital of Jordan instead of invading. @ GE (LAND) moves an ARM through Kiel against the flipped PARA and 2x DIV stack in Denmark. CW defensive shore bombardment and ground support by scores of a/c puts the attack at 1:1. A poor roll by the GE player doesn’t help matters and the attack is rebuffed without much damage to either side (Blitz: 12).

The turn ends.

1.      W=10 (NT= Fine) CW (COMB) moves transports to the China Sea and embarks 2x US MAR and a MAR division. @ US (LAND) invades Tokyo, defended only with a 4-1 GARR and an AT. Shore bombardment and ground support triple the attackers’ strength but a stalwart defence (and a poor US roll) repulses the invasion; a JA GARR is lost (Assault: 14). In Europe, the US blows an O-chit on Ike HQ-A and makes several attacks, including an assault on Paris. US ground strikers miss all targets against the 2x GE corps isolated in Cherbourg, but take the hex easily with British naval guns providing support (Blitz: 23+). US and CW troops assault Rouen, which is sandwiched between   the American and British forces in France and also experiences the accurate gunnery of CW surface ships. CW loses an INF in the attack but two Allies meet and shake hands in the centre of the city (Assault: 20). Paris is ground struck disrupting all 3x defenders (+5 DRM) and is assaulted by US troops from 2x hexes, both across the river but fortified by Ike HQ-A. Heading the troops are 2x 2-factor ENG which are doubled (+8 DRM). A CW PARA is destroyed when their ATR is shot down and a US PARA/ATR is aborted by GE fighters, but a US PARA DIV is cleared and drops near Paris (+1 DRM). During ground support a CW Tempest dies (as usual) but so does a GE LND-3 and a FTR-2. US and CW clear through 24 points of ground support while GE clears through a mere 5. GE uses HQ support but with a final DRM of +11 and a decent roll of ‘13’, Paris falls (Assault: 23+). The only survivor, a 3-factor SS ENG is retreated. @@ USSR (LAND) uses an O-chit on Zhukov who has made his way to southern E. Poland. Russian ground strikers are aborted in central E. Poland but a tank-buster LND flips a DIV and a corps across a river in the south. In Rumania, a major air battle ensues with 4x GE FTR vs. 6x USSR FTR escorting 2x LND. Russia loses a FTR and a tank-buster LND, then aborts from the combat when its final LND is aborted to no German losses. USSR attacks in E. Prussia in a low odds attack, but a roll of ‘15’ shatters the defenders (Blitz: 19). Another risky one-hex attack across a river retreats a lone GE MECH in northern E. Poland (Blitz: 16); the Soviets lose a unit and flip. Zhukov-fortified units attack the flipped units across a river in southern E. Poland without the benefit of ENG and are stonewalled by the defenders (Blitz: 12). In Rumania, another Zhukov-enhanced attack meets the same result when GE clears in ground support, aborts the Russian LND and uses Manstien for HQ support (Blitz: 12). In Iraq, USSR attacks an IT MECH and AA from 3-hexes and kills Italy’s best gun but fails to take the hex; 2x MIL are sacrificed (Assault: 16). In Manchuria, USSR loses a MECH DIV but kills the Manchurian TERR and takes a key coastal mountain hex on the China Sea that cuts the rail line that allows Japanese reorg through the Sea of Japan (Assault: 22). @@@@ CH (COMB) sends out its SUB and activates for the US in the China Sea but no one finds. CH Nationalists ground strike and flip 2x oos JA units, then the CHI-Coms attack the JA line with the help of 2x hefty PART from the rear and cut it (Assault: 23).

2.      IT (COMB) DoWs Yemen (CW). IT moves some ships to the Arabian Sea. An IT MAR crosses into Yemen, adjacent to Aden. IT attacks the flipped Russian MECH in Syria, that is cutting supply to the IT forces in Iraq, and kills it with the assistance of a tank-buster Piaggio (Blitz: 23+). IT rebases air off the line in France. @ GE (LAND) rails newly reconstituted Mannerheim HQ-I from Helsinki to Copenhagen and an Algerian TERR from Algeria to Danzig as breakthrough protection, using up both straits rail moves for the turn. A Spanish MIL is railed to a coastal port in Yugoslavia, completing the containment of Tito HQ-P. GE pulls back a little in France, straightening its line. GE reorgs flipped units in the front lines. @@ JA (COMB) sends a 10x ship supply fleet (2x CV, 3x BB, SUB, 3x CA, AMPH) to the 4 box of the China Sea, hoping to avoid the major US fleet. It does not. Naval air combat consists of 2x JA CVP against 13x US CVP: JA manages to abort 3x US CVP (+/- 4 column) and AA kills another 2x US CVP. The remaining US air sinks the AMPH and SUB. By the time they don’t find, JA is left with 2xBB and 2x CA in the sea area.

3.      W= 2* (NT= Snow).  US (COMB) moves the A-bomb to Hawaii from SanFran where it is then embarked onto a TRS off the Marshalls. US activates in the Sea of Japan but can’t find the small JA supply fleet there. US activates in the China Sea, but only a small picket CW fleet in the 4-box finds. CW (COMB) picks on a lone JA SUB in a lower box and aborts it, but has 2 of its 3 SCS aborted as well. US ground strikes miss vs. JA units south of Shanghai. @@ CH (LAND) attacks a lone, flipped and oos wp JA HQ-I on the coast of China and kills it when the JA player calls ‘assault’ without thinking… (Assault: 11). The Allies have now sliced the Japanese units on the mainland into 3 pockets: Korea/E. Manchuria, Port Arthur/Northern China/Mid-China and a 3-hex pocket around Shanghai.

@@@ USSR (LAND) does nothing of any note other than to continue marching its ENG divisions to Poland from Rumania, where they have apparently abandoned attempting to break the maze of GE forts in and around Ploesti and the swamps. USSR also rebases some air forward through the blizzard in the Ukraine and the Baltics.

4.      GE (LAND) takes advantage of the weather and Russian inactivity to maximize its lines in E. Poland and E. Prussia and is behind rivers in most hexes south of Warsaw. GE pulls back a hex-line in France, leaving behind the ubiquitous speed bump. @ IT (LAND) also moves east, back a hex-line in southern France, and south into the coastal mountains of Spain, vacating a portion of the southern coast of France and giving up the rail between Spain and Germany. An IT ARM and CAV join an IT MECH, MIL and ART in north-western Yugoslavia to help suppress partisans, and to protect its eastern frontiers if the Russian army ever makes an appearance. @@ JA (COMB) sends a convoy point to the China Sea and it is miraculously not found by the Allied fleets.

5.      W= 7 (NT= Rain). US (SUPER-COMBINED)attempts to port strike a long idle IT mini-fleet in Gibraltar, but the Italians are not surprised and there is no combat. A small US BB fleet sails from India to the Arabian Sea only to have Italian naval air find them and they sink the Nevada, damage the Texas and Oklahoma and abort another back to India. US subs have no luck searching for the Italian supply in the Red Sea. The TRS carrying the A-bomb returns to base to The Philippines. In the China Sea, US activates but only the small CW fleet in the 4-box finds at first and nothing of interest occurs. The major US fleet in the 2-box then finds and the JA fleet is again sunk and scattered then limps a couple of ships home after a single round with the US fleet, which again puts the mainland forces oos. US sea borne city in Argentina, southeast of Buenos Aeries. The US loses 2x corps when the US player rolls a ‘3’ (Assault: 13).

@ CW (LAND) ground strikes east of Lille but only manages to flip a division. A Tempest actually survives an A2A combat and then flips a division and a MECH northeast of Paris. Combined US and CW troops attack the speed bump in front of the German lines and kill both GARR with ease (Assault: 23+). CW air, supporting US ground forces attacking the hex northeast of Paris, kills a GE Me-410 and aborts a Stuka but clears a few GE points through. US takes the hex (Blitz: 22) by killing a Sp INF and retreating a MECH and AA gun. @@ USSR (LAND) attempts to ground strike Mukden, Manchuria but misses and, again, performs no attacks.

@@@ CH  (LAND) slowly but surely envelopes the main oos JA force in China whose tenuous reorg line (providing there is overseas supply) is threatened but intact at Peking. The turn ends on a 30% chance.

Partisans: (DR=10). NEI receives a fourth partisan, placed on one of the Oil resources.

Final Reorg: JA cannot reorg any of its several flipped land and air units on the mainland due to lack of supply.

Peace: CW Liberates France.

Lending: GE>IT 5 Res, 5 Bpts.

Initiative (zero box) X =1, A =4; Axis demands re-roll; X =4, A =5;

Allies win and go first.

1.      W=7 (NT= Fine) CW (NAVAL) sends out its major fleet to the North Sea to augment those that stayed at sea. CW ground strikes in France killing 2x GE FTR-2 and flips 2x corps in one hex and a division in the other.

@ US (LAND) declares an O-chit on Ike HQ-A. US air attempts to ground strike a German hex in France and another GE FTR-2 bites the dust, but not before killing a tank-buster US LND. The attacks proceed in any case… East of Paris another Tempest is shot down and GE manages to clear through 13 points of ground support. The US loses an ARM division in the failed attack (Blitz: 9) when the US player rolls yet another ‘3’. The attack on the next hex south, with 2x flipped defenders, is more successful, but still only retreats the Germans (Blitz: 17). Doubled units attack Vichy, France, garrisoned by the Munich MIL and a 3-factor SS MIL who perform a stout defence assisted by GE ground support. The city holds, with the US losing an ART, on another unfortunate US roll of ‘5’ (Assault: 11). Further south, US (and CW) air faces a good portion of the Italian air force, during ground support, and loses 2x FTR and have their bombers aborted, but manage to kill an IT FTR-2.

Doubled American troops assault the mountain redoubt (INF, MTN) but merely exhaust themselves in the effort (Assault: 12).

@@ USSR (LAND) finally decides the ground is dry enough to fight and Koniev gets an O-chit this time. Russian air shoots down a GE FTR-3 and FTR-2 then flips an AT gun in E. Poland. Other ground-strikers are aborted. A couple of hexes east of Warsaw, GE clears through 8 points of ground support but Soviet units take the hex anyway, retreating the defenders (Blitz: 18). Doubled units in East Prussia have no problem when, although GE clears through 6 points of ground support, Russia clears through 13 making the rough odds 162-24. Reserve troops prevent any breakthrough but an AT and INF are destroyed and a MECH is spiralled (Blitz: 23+).  In the Pacific, US air attempts to destroy Japanese units in Korea and fly the atomic bomb in a carpet bomb mission.

Unbelievably, 2x JA CVP (flying as fighters from land) abort the front LND then kill the one carrying the bomb (+/- 3 A2A column). USSR ground strikes, flips 1 of 3 units in Mukden (the HQ) then attacks, taking the city once more (Assault: 23). Russian chooses to retreat the surviving HQ. @@@ CH (LAND) Nationalist air flips only a division on an oos stack in Hang Chow but assaulst the city anyway. It holds and the CH Nationalists lose a CAV division and flip (Assault: 12). Chi-Coms, however, overrun a flipped JA LND as they run around behind the JA lines and assault Peking, defended by a lone Warlord, from the front and rear. They take the city, completing the encirclement of approximately 5-6x JA corps and an HQ in China (Assault: 21). The US uses all its HQs worldwide to reorg land and air units, including most of the 20 surviving land units that flipped in France this impulse.

2.      JA (COMB) sails out all its last 2x CV and SCS, along with TRS/AMPH, to the China Sea in a forlorn hope to get supply to the mainland. JA lands an INF division in each of Shanghai and Port Arthur (2 of its 3 remaining victory hexes).

@ IT (LAND) pulls out its expeditionary force in Iraq, en masse, and heads for the Syrian coast (3x HQ, 2x INF, 2x MIL, MECH, Supply unit, 2x division, and a Stuka) leaving behind a partisan on the northernmost Oil in Iraq and a Syrian TERR on the rail line to the west.

@@ GE (LAND) moves reinforcements forward and fiddles with its lines.

3.      W= 7 (NT= Fine). US (COMB) uses an offensive chit to re-flip its HQs. US activates in the China Sea but doesn’t find. @ USSR (SUPER-COMB) sends subs to the Sea of Japan, SCS to the Black Sea and SCS to the Baltic: none find their quarry. USSR carpet bombs Warsaw with 24 points, after GE aborts 1x LND, and kills a flipped FTR in the hex on a roll of ‘9’. Russian air ground strikes 5 hexes in E. Prussian and Poland and flips several units including Warsaw and an HQ further north. USSR attacks the HQ stack in E. Prussia and takes it, spiralling the HQ (Blitz: 23+). GE HQ support fails to save a hex east of the mountains in Rumania when the Russian player rolls a ‘19’ killing an ENG and a MTN; a 12-factor ARM is spiralled (Blitz: 23).

@@ CW invades the southwest port in Norway in an invasion lead by its resurrected Armoured MAR division (Blitz” 23+). CW loses a MECH division but takes Aarhus, Denmark (Blitz: 16). The defenders are destroyed without any retreat path and the mini-fleet is overrun. Russian naval units spot the fleeing Germans and intercept, damage an AMPH then abort 4 of 6 cps while avoiding GE naval air, before the remaining ships limp into Stettin. CW and US units team up on the hinge of the German line near the France/Belgian border and shatter the defenders (Blitz: 21). A second US attack vs Vichy, France, is costly but the city is taken (Assault: 19); US loses a MOT and an INF.

@@@ CH (LAND) blitzes a flipped, oos MIL in China (Blitz: 23+).

4.      JA (LAND) switches units in Manchuria in an attempt to get Manchurian units out of Port Arthur and others in. @ IT (LAND) continues its exodus towards the Mediterranean Sea in Syria, filling its ports and coastlines.

@@ GE (SUPER-COMBINED) flies a NAV then sails its main fleet, approx. 10 ships including 2x CV/L and a captured French SUB, to the 4-box of the Baltic Sea and finds the pesky Russians. GE sinks a Norwegian CA and damages a Russian before losing sight of the others. GE units are railed to potential hot points and GE does its best to fix holes in E. Prussia and Poland. GE declares Chisnau, Rumania an open city and backs into the mountains. GE withdraws in Western Europe and forms a straight line anchored in the north at Antwerp, then south through Brussels and Metz to the Swiss border.

5.      W= 4 (NT= Fine). CH (COMB) sends out its SUB and activates for the Allies in the China Sea and finds: during round 1 the US naval air arm (approx. 16 a/c) sinks a CV, AMPH, a CA and damages a CA. Round 2 sees the BB Musashi and another CA sunk before JA voluntarily aborts its surviving craft [the GE player vows not to take over for JA again, rolling 2x ‘10’ to the Allies’ 2x ‘1’ –Ed.] Chi-Com troops roll a flipped and oos JA HQ within the encirclement in China (Assault: 18). @ CW (LAND) uses an O-chit on Monty. CW doubled units attacking from a single hex, with 38 points of OSB, take Antwerp (Assault: not recorded). Other fortified units attack southeast of Brussels and shatter the defenders, but the CW is forced to lose an ARM (Blitz: 20). A solitary MIL in Fredrikshavn, Denmark, also bites the dust and the CW now has a minor port on the Baltic (Blitz: 23+).

@@ US (LAND) blows another O-chit on Ike HQ-A and tears into the German line. Doubled units attack and take the hex northwest of Metz, shattering the defenders (Blitz: 20) and breakthrough an extra hex. Southeast of Metz, US troops retreat the defenders and take more real estate (Blitz: 16), ZoCing a GE stack in the southwest corner of GE from supply.

@@@ USSR sees an O-chit declared on Zhukov. Ground strikes are moderately successful and Russia attacks Warsaw and the hex northwest of it. A PARA lands around the city and a doubled ENG leads the attack that sees the Polish capital liberated (Assault: 23+). GE loses a PARA and an INF and has its ENG retreated.

The attack northwest of Warsaw sees the USSR lose a MECH division but the defenders are retreated into Lodz and to the other side of it.

@@ In China, US troops take Hang Chow and no JA troops survive (Assault: 23+) as they have no retreat path. US reorgs air and land units worldwide with the remainder of its unflipped HQs.

6.      JA (COMB) sends a cp to the China Sea and it is promptly sunk. A SUB tries to find a CW TRS in the Bismarck Sea, but has no luck. @ GE (LAND) scrambles to make a line in The Low Countries but can’t patch the hole at the Seigfried line further south. Manstein HQ-A is railed from Rumania to the mountains north of Switzerland and puts the isolated units in supply. @@ IT (LAND) moves units south of Switzerland in anticipation of a possible Allied DoW on the border country. Italian troops in Syria await transportation.

7.      W= 2* (NT = Rain). US (LAND) uses an O-chit to re-flip its HQs. American troops force the gap in the German lines and push into Germany and overrun a stored Oil in Saarbruken. US takes Metz, defended by a lone disrupted GE HQ (Blitz: 23+) and overruns a flipped Stuka.

@@ USSR takes a flipped, oos stack southwest of Warsaw and breaks through with a MECH division to overrun a FTR-3 that is then forced to rebase (Blitz: 23+). A Russian MAR walks around Danzig and, although is now oos, is within overrun range of several spend GE air units.

8.      IT (NAVAL) slams an HQ into Italy. 3x TRS and SCS sail to the E. Med and Red Sea and pick up HQ, MECH, INF, ENG, MOT division and an INF division. A tank-buster Piaggio is killed in France when Italy tries to help its erstwhile partner contain the US salient wit a ground strike.

@ JA (COMB) flies a CVP as a NAV to the zero-box of the China Sea and sails a cp there as well. The Allies don’t find, and with supply restored for the moment, JA switches units on the mainland to try and minimize the damage the will occur when the Manchurians disappear.

@@ GE (LAND) rails crappy garrison-duty units to the 3x GE cities nearest the US breakthrough in order to put some ZoC on the advancing units. GE counter attacks the USSR MECH division that broke through alone and kills it (Blitz: 23+).

9.      W= 10 (NT= Fine). US (LAND) uses its third O-chit on Ike HQ-A this turn.

A PARA is ATR’d adjacent to Strasbourg, Fr, which falls in the ensuing attack (Blitz: 23+). Aachen and Karlesruhe, Ge, both fall to fortified US troops (2x Blitz: 23+) with the sole survivor, an ARM, of both attacks retreated into Cologne. The turn ends on a 50% chance. US troops fail to take Shanghai and lose a GARR (Assault: 17) but JA loses an ENG. @ CW (LAND) close with GE troops defending the Norwegian port that is on 2 sea zones. CW takes the hex northwest of Liege, Be, and spirals the survivors (Blitz: 22).

@@ USSR (LAND) attacks a single flipped MECH across a river in Poland but merely retreats it (Blitz: 16) and loses a MOT division. USSR kills Rudel LND-2, who was attempting to provide ground support in Rumania, but fails to take the hex when the USSR player rolls a ‘2’; Russia loses a MOT division and a MECH division. GE loses a MIL (Blitz: 16). Russia loses an ENG and an ARM in a failed attempt to take Lodz (Assault: 16); GE loses a red-dot gun.

@@@ CH (LAND). A rare Chi-Com LND flips a JA MTN in Port Arthur for the Russians but they do not press an attack. The turn ends on a 50% chance.

Partisans: (DR= 2). No partisan activity.

RTB: The German fleet stays at sea in the Baltic. Italian troop-laden transports and cruisers in the Red Sea and E. Med fill northern Italian ports. The monster US fleet stays on patrol in the China Sea.

Peace: CW Liberates Belgium, CW Liberates The Netherlands; USSR Liberates Poland; USSR conquers Manchuria.

End of May/Jun 1945.

Jul/Aug 1945

(7 Impulse Turn)

Lending: none.

Initiative (Axis +1) X =8, A =4; Axis win and go first.

1.      W=7 (NT= Fine). JA (NAVAL) sails its remnant navy to the ‘4’ box of the China Sea in hopes of getting supply to the mainland; a CVP flying as a NAV and some cps are in the zero. 2x TRS attempt to join the fleet but are stopped by Russian subs as they leave Korea. The US activates and bitch-slaps the JA fleet, killing its last 2x CV and rids the sea zone of all but the cps, 2x BB (including the Yamato) and a CA. JA’s only consolation are 2x excellent –1/2 AA rolls (10-10 and 9-9) which kill 3x US CVP.

@ GE (LAND) flies a FTR-3 to the Baltic to join its naval forces already there. USSR activates and is punished for its attempt, losing its last SCS assets in the theatre. GE rushes its reinforcements, spiralled and built, consisting of 20x corps (8 heavy ARM/MECH), 2x HQ, 4x non-GE corps, 7x divisions and 9 a/c to hot points, of which there are many.

@@ IT (LAND) moves units against the Swiss border and the German border south of Munich.

2.      CW (NAVAL) sails a CV, 2x BB and a CA from Fredrikshavn, De. to the Baltic and activates. CW finds but doesn’t like its odds against the GE fleet so it attacks and sinks the lone Finnish boat in the ‘2’ box. @ US (SUPER-COMBINED) hauls reinforcements from the US to Europe. US activates in the Sea of Japan and the China Sea but does not find. US ground strikers hit 9x hexes in Germany, with GE only able to muster enough FTR to 4 of them.

The ground strikes are mostly unsuccessful except for 1 hex where all are 3x defenders are disrupted. US kills the flipped stack in GE (Blitz: 23+) and takes Saarbrucken (Assault: 22) in a 6x hex attack that sees 6x US units flip.

@@ CH (AIR) attempts to carpet-bomb Shanghai but fails. @@@ USSR (LAND) loses a LND and a FTR but kills a GE FTR in ground strike attempts in Poland. In Rumania, the ground strike a/c is aborted by Rummy and GE air. In Poland, both GE and USSR clear in 5x points of ground support but USSR takes the river hex for the loss of an ENG (Blitz: 19). Russian forces take a mountain hex in Rumania from a lone GE MOT in a combat that costs them a MOT division and an ARM division (Assault: 15).

@@@@ FR (COMB) [is noted only because each Allied mp performed a different type of action in one impulse :) –Ed.] US and USSR reorg.

3.      W= 5 (NT= Fine). JA (NAVAL) sends its 2x TRS home to Japan and reorgs them with an HQ.

@ GE (LAND) pulls back in mid and southern Poland, leaving the north anchored at Danzig in the north, and into Czechoslovakia at the south of a fairly good defensive line vs. the USSR. In the west, the GE line vs. the US salient is tenuous and the situation is much more fluid.

@@ IT (LAND) helps the situation by taking over mountain hexes south of Munich, lead by 2x heavy HQ. IT rebases more of its underused air force to northeast Italy.

4.      CH (COMB) sends out its SUB and activates in the Sea of Japan but sees no action. CH attacks a lone JA flipped HQ in the mountains northwest of Port Arthur, Manchuria, and takes the hex but loses a MTN and MIL (Assault: 19).

@ FR (COMB) activates for the Allies in the China Sea and that pretty well spells the end of Japan’s hopes to supply the mainland when they kill every JA asset in the sea zone (US, leery of the fluky JA AA, went surface with 170+ surface factors).

@@ USSR (LAND) takes Port Arthur (Assault: 20). In Europe, USSR has its ground-strike aircraft shot down or aborted. USSR attacks the forest (fort) hex northeast of Ploesti but loses a MECH, an ARM and fails to take its (Assault: 19); GE loses a gun. In Poland, Russian forces are frustrated when they attack GE 2 hexes south of GE-held Lodz (Blitz: 12).

@@@ US (LAND) used an O-chit on Ike. US loses a Black Widow but kills 2x GE FTR during a ground strike mission on Lyons, Fr. A LND is cleared through but GE AA in the hex takes a point off, leaving ‘3’. A MTN is flipped (along with the AA) and the US uses doubled troops to attack the mountain redoubt, worth 44 (red-dot AA, 2x MTN) prior to ground support.

Both sides clear in support but attacking ENG and PARA make the difference and the US takes Lyons (Assault: 21). US troops kill a speed bump in GE (Blitz: auto) and take Frankfurt against 3x flipped units (Assault: 23+). In China, the US takes mainly flipped and oos Shanghai (Assault: auto) and announces it will not revert it to CH.

@@@@ CW (LAND) land reinforcements in Norway and closes with the defenders. CW teams with FR troops to take out another GE speed bump in the north, but cannot muster a single ARM of MECH unit to force blitz. The defenders hold off the attack losing a flipped GARR; the Allies lose a FR corps and a CW GARR (Assault: 14). CW troops take the hex north of Kiel, however, at the cost of a PARA (Assault: 20).

5.      W= 1 (NT= Fine). JA (LAND) simply collapses land units to in and around Tokyo, its last remaining victory hex.

@ GE (LAND) rails a MTN division and a Ru MTN out the the hex south of Lyons, then walks Rundstedt HQ a hex east along the rails towards Italy.

@@ IT (LAND) replaces units in the hex vacated by the Germans south of Lyons and takes over the garrison of Munich, freeing up some badly needed GE troops to move east.

6.      USSR (SUPER-COMBINED) sails ships and activates in the Black Sea, but the lone Rummy fishing boat simply rids the sea zone of all 3x USSR SCS over several rounds of meaningless naval combat. Activation in the Baltic fails to find for either side. USSR, frustrated by abortive attacks on a key GE stack in Poland (on the northern resource) carpet bombs it instead, annihilating all 3x defenders. This allows USSR to flank the German line and breakthrough after taking the next hex south (Blitz: 23+). An attack against a southern Poland mountain hex is less successful (Assault: 13).

@ US (LAND) uses an O-chit and assaults Munich. A US LND manages to evade IT FTR cover and flips a heavy ARM in the city. During ground support, the US shoots down another Piaggio, but others clear and IT lends 14/2 =7 points to the defence of the city. An average roll of ‘11’ is not enough for the doubled units to dislodge the defenders and the US loses an ENG and an INF division; IT loses an INF division (Assault: 16). US troops kill a flipped GE HQ and are now a fort-hexside away from being adjacent to Prague, Cz.

@@ CW (LAND) kills a 3-flipped stack in northern GE (Blitz: 23+). An attack in Norway, against 2x MECH, a hex southwest of Oslo fails when GE CVP, the Bismarck and other ships lend support to the defenders (Blitz: 13). CW loses its ARM/MAR division, a MAR division and flips.

7.      JA (PASS) has little more it can do. @ IT (PASS) holds.

@@ GE (LAND) ponders a PASS action but notes that USSR is a single land move away from unoccupied Vienna, the CW the same vs. Berlin. Prague and Budapest are also at risk. GE rails crap to 3 of those cities. GE pulls the GE line in Poland as far west and south as possible, leaving 3 unit garrisons in Danzig and Lodz. All is moot when the GE player rolls a ‘2’ ending the game on a 20% chance.

Peace: All Major Powers Come to Peace.

End of Jul/Aug 1945.

Victory: Allies (45/52)–7; Axis (22/15)+7: Marginal to Moderate Axis

Victory: Allies –7; Axis +7: Marginal to Moderate Axis Victory.

The game ended at the end of Jul/Aug 1945 with the Allies controlling 45 victory hexes and the Axis controlling 22. The Axis high water mark was 36.

At game end, the Allies controlled every victory hex on the Asian and Pacific maps except for Tokyo, which was retained by Japan.

In the west, Germany controlled (but garrisoned by/or was nearest to neutral) the following 15 victory hexes: Belgrade, Berlin, Budapest, Bucharest, Buenos Aires, Gibraltar (IT), Helsinki, Kiel, Madrid, Marseilles (IT), Munich, Oslo, Prague, Stockholm (n), and Vienna.

Italy controlled the following 6 victory hexes: Athens, Istanbul (n), Jerusalem, Milan, Rome, and Suez.

The Allies controlled the remaining victory hexes.

The totals vs. the Game Objective Chart (2000 Annual) were as follows: CW –2 (16/18), US even (13/13), USSR –2 (11/13), FR –3 (2/5), CH even  (2/2); GE +5 (15/10), IT +6 (6/0), JA –4 (1/5).

The groupings by player were as follows:

CW/US –2 (29/31), USSR/FR/CH –5 (15/20); GE/IT +11 (21/10), JA –4  (1/5).

The game was hosted by Sir Grognard and took place from Feb. 28/02 through Oct 1/02 (approximately 7 months) meeting weekly for an average of 6 hours per session.
