"Allies in Flames"

This was my first attempt at Global War, playing the Allies against my opponent, a veteran of Wif 1.

Needless to say, The Allies didn't do so well. The game was called after N/D 42, with the Japanese ruling from Aden to Midway, and also having built all of her units out.

Setup

Germany sets up France first, with only 5 units facing the Poles.
IT sets up Balbo + 2 corps in albania.
JA sets up heavily against china, with several units on the RU border.
RU puts 2 weak INF in Vlad, while Zhukov and another INF set up in Chitka near the resource.
FR draws poorly, with her best units in Syrian and Algeria.
CW places units in Rabul and Gibraltar to forstall sneak attacks.

(Good notes don't start until '40)

S/O 39

GE DOWs Poland, moves a MTN to the far south resource. Von Leeb and the other 3 corps set up as roadblocks against a suprise Polish trip to Berlin. Second
Impulse FR and CW groundstrike Von Bock and Rundstedt in the suprise impulse, stalling the offensive yet to come. GE DOWs Belgium, and a solid line forms
on the Antwerp-Brussels axis. JA DOWs RU, landing around Vlad, which is promptly surrounded by the Manchurian troops. The Nagoya militia advances
toward the Chitka resource, as the Soviets are loathe to attack with Zhukov. Horrid weather (2 10's) stops major offensives this turn. IT DOWs Greece and
slowly moves south toward Athens.

N/D 39

Not much better weather. JA kills 2 Chicom corps outside Si-An, leaving Mao alone in the city; Mao dies on a 1:1 assault the next axis impulse.
GE groundstrike attempts near Metz fail, with a GE LND killed. A JA corps moves next to Lan-Chow, keeping ChiCom reinforcements from appearing. IT
moves around the Greek troops, which are based on the resource in the middle of the country.

Impulse 1: Weather roll 6
The Konigsberg MIL moves into Danzig, aborting the Polish cruiser to London. Japan takes Vlad on a 7:1 assault , with a 10 rolled. RU and JA come to peace,
with JA gaining 4 resources (!)

Impulse 2: China shortens its line, concentrating in the mountains around Si-An and farther south. RU rails Zhukov to Leningrad, beginning the buildup against the
Finns. France takes a land to send more corps to the Belgian line, while the CW transport a 7-4 INF to France. The greeks move the MTN toward Athens, but
are OOS and flip. It looks like the Italians will beat them there.

Impulse 3: Weather roll 9 (3**)
GE makes its first naval move of the war, sending out everything to the Faroes Gap. Luckily they don't find the undefended 10 CP. JA rails troops in Vlad south
to Nanking, while other troops march south down Manchuria. IT reaches the outskirts of Athens with 2 corps.

Impulse 4 The CW fleet sallies into the Faroes, seeing the GE fleet as a sitting duck. Unfortunately, only the GE fleet finds, gaining 9 suprise points.GE gleefully
chooses surface combat with its suprise points, sinking the Illustrious and Carlyle (CL), while having a CL damaged and the Gniseau and Deutschland aborted.
Royal Navy lookouts are chastized in the press. RU takes the Baltic states, and rails a LND to Leningrad from Chitka. ChiNats move toward Cheng-Tu

Impulse 5 Weather roll 7 (3*)
IT assaults the 3-2 Athens MIL at 5:1 thanks to fleet assistance, takes it on a 9 and Greece falls. The Greek CL is destroyed and the 10 CP aborted to Malta.
The turn ends on a 2.

Impulse 1 Weather roll 4? (2)
The Chinese form a line around the Cheng-Tu - Si-An line. CW puts part of its fleet, mostly BBs and 2 CVs, into the Faroes. The SwordFish and
Blenheim run naval air in the North Sea. France moves the Chevalier ARM and Metz MIL to the Belgian line. RU moves 2 INF toward Leningrad on foot.

Impulse 2 The GE fleet bravely sallies into the Faroes, avoiding the planes in the north sea. The CW finds them, calling naval air to avenge the Illustrious. The
Schliesen (a floating damage repository) is damaged, with the Gniseau and Deutschland aborted again. JA groundstrikes the ChiNats in front of Si-An, killing the
CHI FTp on a 2 and flipping 1 unit. IT moves its units toward Salonica for evacuation to Italy. GE rebases planes to the front lines in Belgium.

Impulse 3 Weather roll 9 (1), clear everywhere
CW portstrikes Kiel w/ the Blenheim and the Swordfish, shooting down the GE 2 factor FTR, also killing 5 CP. 2 ships are aborted in the Faroes in air combat,
leaving the sub alone. Gort and the 7-4 MOT move 2 hexes behind the GE line, acting as backup. FR moves a 5-3 WP Inf into the line, while RU sends an INF
and LND toward Finland.

Impulse 4 An O-Chit gets cracked on Rundsteadt, as GE attempts to blow a hole in the French line. An air battle kills a SpitFire and the HE-11B. GE assaults
Metz at 4-1 and takes it, flipping in the process. There are 3 french units (3-3 INF, 2 3-1 GAR) isolated getween Metz and the Maginot line now. Brussels falls
to a 4:1 assault as well, with 2 corps lost on each sides. GE looks to be flanking the French on 2 sides.

Impulse 5 Weather roll 7 (2)
The BE corps are retreated into Calais. Billotes reorgs the French air force north of Metz, knowing an air battle is coming next turn. The London MIL is
transported to Malta, while RU continues to mass on the Finnish border.

Impulse 6 The IT Mot and INF in Greece are transported back to Rome. Air battles over France claim the French Potez FTR, while the ground support for GE
leads toa 5:1 Blitz 2 hexes SW of Brussels, the */1B killing both units as there is no room to retreat (8 rolled). the French line is crumbling.

Impulse 7 Weather roll 3 (3)
FR moves the 6-1WP GAR in Paris to the front. CW transports the Belgian CAV and Inf to a port near Calais. RU moves a 4-3INF to the Finnish border.

Impulse 8 JA passes, as the weather is too nasty to attack. GE moves troops up to cover the holes created by advancing. The front is now at the FR-Belgium
border. A GE PARA drops into Calais, flanking Gort and the CW troops. GE attempts a 3:1 Blitz onto Gort's stack, getting a 1/- result for their troubles. The
turn can end on an 8, but a 9 is rolled.

Impulse 9 Weather clear
2 Belgian corps move near Calais, killing the GE PARA while killing the Belgian MIL. The turn can end on an 8, a 10 is rolled. The allies are contemplating
making a trip to the church across the street to beg forgiveness for poor rolling.

Impulse 10 GE retakes Calais from the flipped 5-2 Belgian INF. on a 2:1+1 Blitz. Turn ends on an 8, a 9 is rolled. Will this turn ever end?!?

Impulse 11 All the Allies pass, the turn ends automatically on a 10

A 1-2 PART appears on the southern Polish resource
USE: option 18 is taken (resources to Western Allies)

JA, with many extra build points, buys 5 multiples and gains 20 Intelligence. God help the Chinese

Thoughts

After 10 impulses in M/A, France went from resonably solid to in serious trouble. She is being flanked around Calais, keeping Gort and several large FR units
from backpeadling to Paris. Next turn there will be a massive withdrawl toward the capital. If France can hold out another torn, 2 WP INF (6-3 and 5-3) and
Pretelat are compng in, which could save their bacon.

Japan is running wild in Asia. With 4 extra resources, she's build most of the 40 force pool and is using Intel to bring in the 41 force pool as well. USE sems
geared toward Ge, so JA will prove a tough nut to crack. China is sticking to the mountains, which may be their saving grace. There is a scary amount of red fleet
on the production spiral.

CW has spent its time building as much fleet as possible, at the expense of land and air units. When france falls (probably J/A at the latest), production will shift to
strat bombers and land units for Malta, Gibraltar and the Suez (where wavell is sitting alone).

I hope you've enjoyed this report, more will be coming as gets played. It looks like 3-4 turns a week at this pace, faster if there are fewer 11 impulse marathon
M/A turns.

Impulse 1: Weather roll 7(1)
GE tries to groundstrike a 9 stack outside Metz, flipping 1 unit at the cost of a FTR. An attack on the hex at 3:1+1 kills 1 unit on each side, causing the german
units to flip. Lille is taken on a 4:1 attack, surrounding Gort and the BEF on 5 sides. JA takes Si-An.

Impulse 2 The remaining French units move to around Paris. A French GAR outside Metz, cut off from the rest of the army, forces a GE LND to rebase and

A 2-2 Greek Partisan arrives on the resource.

No US Entry actions.

CW production is in the single digits due to 25 convoy points lost. The allies are giving up an average of 6 or so suprise points a combat, Between that and high
rolls in combat (bad , as we're using 2-die land combat and I'm usually on the defensive), I can't wait to use all these 9's and 10's on the offense :) The US will be
repairing may a CW ship in the next year, as the repair pool is getting full. Judging by the massive buildup in Poland, Barbarossa will be happening soon (and has,
a report will come soon). China will fall soon, as she has had no production since mid-late 40 and is surrounded on all sides. Japan is running out of things to
build, which will make the Pacific war rough.
